    1. Take action or bad news for genealogy
    2. Please take the time today to write a letter to your Senators, your Representative, the President, the Vice-President and the Secretary of Human and Health Services. Addresses at the bottom of this e-mail. This is so important to all genealogists! The rate increase will be effective July 1st, so we don't have much time! Please write today, it will only take a few minutes to compose a letter and send it off. Copied from a post to another list: I have just discovered that the SSA is raising the price by 286% for the most valuable tool that genealogists request, the SS-5 form, Original Application for SS Number... It is going up from its present $7 to $27, effective 1 July 2001. Reference: <http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm#_Toc517745431> This is untenable, since many people who do genealogy are older retired folks on fixed income... and this large increase appears to be intended to discourage the public from access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act. How can it cost $27 to receive a request, then make and mail a copy of the one page document??? ...Government is not intended to be making a profit... The $7 seems high, when you actually evaluate the task...and Researching costs more...Could it be that they have some awfully high paid clerks...and/or interns...??? Since anything can be proven by statistics, I don't believe their "analysis" but you might want to make your representatives in Congress aware of this... Senate Addresses <http://www.senate.gov/> House Addresses <http://www.house.gov/> President George W. Bush: <president@whitehouse.gov> Vice President Dick Cheney: <vice.president@whitehouse.gov> Assistant-Secretary for HHS: <Sandra.Eubanks-Brown@hhs.gov> Notify all your Genealogical buddies, too??? We all need to write...

Carl J. and Elmer Anderson were my great uncles. I've determined that they had Anderson Bros. Inc., (a blacksmithing and welding shop at 719 LAKE OSTERO BLVD. W., WA PALM BEACH FL from 1929 to 1942. Carl lived at 211 N "O" ST., LAKE WORTH, FL. Elmer lived at OKEECHOBEE RD, W. PALM BEACH, FL. Elmer is probably an americanized name as corporate records list him as H.D.Anderson. (Helmer?) 1. cemetery look up
    2. I am also looking for an ancestor who probably died in Palm Beach County, Julia Sheppard-Schryrer/Scherer/Schrier. She was born in Albany New York in 1870 of Ellen Pollard Sheppard and William Sheppard. The family story is that she owned a restaurant in the Palm Beach area. She was in NYC until at least 1900 and died after 1934 when she collected her life insurance policy. The insurance company did not still have the information as to where the check was sent. Would someone be kind enough to look for her between 1934 and 1964. Many thanks.

    1. Cemetery Lookup
    2. I haven't found a cemetery survey book for Palm Beach County so I am asking for some help. If someone has a cemetery survey book, would you please check for Isabella Robinson Matson b. 22 Mar 1881 date of death unknown. She was the second wife of Ellwood (Elwood) Matson b. 14 Sep 1867 d. 11 Dec 1960. Ellwood Matson was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, West Palm Beach. His obituary does not mention his wife. He had lived in Palm Beach County since the 1920's according to his obituary. Ellwood and Isabella had been married in Philadelphia 3 Sep 1903, so I am making a guess that perhaps she moved to FL with him. Thank you for any help. Suzanne Collins Matson
