I would like to make some corrections to information I posted some time ago regarding non- profit bulk mail. I had been told by two postmasters that no advertising was allowed in publications mailed by non-profit bulk mail. However, after many telephone calls I have come up with the following. If you mail at least four times a year on a set-schedule and fill out a form declaring this to be a periodical you are allowed advertising (and lots of it); however, you may not advertise credit cards, debit cards, credit/debit cards, insurance and travel. Since non-profit bulk mail is subsidized by the US Government, Congress sets these rules not the USPO. At least that is what is set forth in Publication 417 last printed October 1996 and interpreted by the bulk mail office in Pensacola. Leslie
