Hi All: I am trying to find information on my great aunt, Ida Lee WORTHINGTON. What I have is as follows: ------------------------------- IDA LEE WORTHINGTON (WORTHINGTON1)1 was born September 07, bet. 1861-1865 in Knox Hill, Walton Co., Florida, and died October 06, 1943 in Poncho De Leon, Holmes Co., Florida. She married DAVID CROCKETT STANDLEY2 January 07, 1903 in Holmes County,Florida, son of DAVID STANDLEY and PATIENCE FAIRCLOTH. I found Ida first in the 1870 Census of Washington Co., Florida: -------------------- 1870 Census of City of Vernon, Washington Co., Florida Page 849 McDermit, Bryant Age 66 Julia Age 33 Lay Nancy Age 15 Worthington, Ida Age 9 (birth year 1861?) -------------------- My grandfather, Johnnie McDermott, said that Ida was his sister. If this is true, Julia McDermit may be her mother. Ida was born between 1861 and 1865, probably at Knox Hill, Florida. I am assuming that if Julia is Ida's mother that she was previously married to a WORTHINGTON. Any information or clues on finding out who Ida's parents were and verification of her place of birth would be much appreciated. Johnnie McDERMOTT and his sister, Mary Annie McDERMOTT, were orphaned some time around 1879 in Vernon, Washington Co., Florida. Johnnie was raised by Christian GILLIS CAMPBELL, widow of John CAMPBELL, of Walton County. Mary was raised by James McLEAN and Catherine GILLIS McLEAN, also of Walton County. Both Johnnie and Mary attended the Knox Hill Academy and were pupils of Stuart Knox GILLIS. Ida was apparently old enough to live and work for families in Washington County and later Holmes County as a servant. Family history says that the GILLIS sisters were friends of the McDERMIT/McDERMOTT or possibly WORTHINGTON family. If this is true, the McDERMIT/McDERMOTT family may have also lived in the Knox Hill area at sometime. Both Ida, Johnnie and Mary list their mother's place of birth as Florida. Ida lists her father's place of birth as Florida also. Johnnie and Mary list their father's place of birth as Ireland. Does anyone have access to any records between 1860 and 1870 who could check to see if there is any reference to Ida, Julia or Bryant? Your assistance would be very much appreciated.
