James Robert Cooper was born between 2 Dec 1852-2Dec 1855. His death certificate states 1853. His tombstone says 1852. The 1900 Fedeeral Census for Pasco Co. computes to 1855. The pob alternates on the census between Ga and Ala. His death certificate says Al. and my grandfather(Streety Cohen, his son) said Al. He married Mary Etta Gillett, daughter of J.J. Gillett (son of Anderson) and Malinda Morgan (daughter of Ephraim and Mary F. Parker) abt 1875. In her pension application file for widows benefits his mother-in-law Malinda has in her folder an affadavit from him stating he has known her 35 years as a near neighbor, longer but 35 years as near neighbor, this was dated 27 June, 1902 and states he was 50 years old. This calculates to knowing her since 1867, and if he is 50 yrs old he has known her since he was at least 15. his place of residence on this affadavit is Wiley, Pasco Co. The Gilletts were in Lafayette/Levy/Dixie Co., I believe before they moved to Pasco/Hernando Co. for land from a Bounty Land Grant for Indian Wars service. James Robert homsteaded 80 acres in Pasco Co., and received the Patent in 1891. I am trying to trace Roberts parents and siblings. He does NOT belong to James Madison Cooper living in the Hillsborough area. I am wondering if he is the James from: Robert M. Cooper family of Lafayette Co., New Troy P.O. Fl listed with (James age 16 abt 1854) brother Joseph W. Cooper (13 y/o abt 1857) sister, the wriiting is almost illegible but ? Wilmoreth (11 y/o 1859) and sister Sarah C (8 y/o 1862) ALL born in Alabama. The wife Nancy(Horton) is not their mother. She was in the 1860 Irwin Co., Ga census living with her parents Lemuel and Frances, siblings and a 4 y/o Jacob G. Cooper, that apparently disappears after this census. A close neighbor of the Hortons is Robert Cooper age 70 and his wife Sarah 66 from N.C. In the 1885 census all above children of Robert and UNKNOWN are gone and two girls, I assume the children of Robert and Nancy are there, Anna age 11 and May or Mary age 10. In her widows pension application dated 1909, Nancy states she has been a resident of Lafayette Co., Florida since 1870 and that she is a resident of Old Town and her address is c/o E.L. Cottrell. If anyone is researching these Coopers and has info on this Robert, please contact me.
