I reiterate... Lee was a popular name for Confederate Camps. So was Jackson. There were camps all over the place, even just within Florida, and as various troops moved in and out the names changed, or at least the different units used different names for the same place. An example is Camp Leon here in Leon County. The daily Florida History e-mails have reference to it as Camp Mary David. However, I am pretty certain that it was actually Mary Davis. I see no reason at all to believe that there was only one Camp Lee in Florida. There may very well have been one in every place mentioned so far, as well as others. Another example... I think that as soon as Gen. Finegan was removed from command after Olustee, the camp near Lake City that bore his name, got a new one. Another possible example... Camp Lamar Cobb. Gen. Cobb's successor in command was very critical of his "nepotism" and though I don't know of any specific new name or even if Camp Lamar Cobb continued to exist after that point... but if it did, I'll pretty well bet that its name changed. Mr. William S. Smedlund, at the time of publication of his book, lived at 1666 Glen Arm Dr., Lithonia, GA 30058-5513. That's all I know... <G> RW Warren Smith wrote: >Richard: Who is Mr. Smedlund and how do we get in touch with him?
