My FL brickwall is my gggrandfather Henry F. BOIT. He first appears as a soldier in the Seminole Wars 1836. He is in Washington Co. (Census)1840 and 1845. He signs a petition there in 1842. I have seen the signature so know he could write. All through the 1850s he appears in the West FL Baptists Conv. minutes, the ledger for Neel's General Store (Neel's Landing), and land records for Jackson Co. FL and Henry Co. AL He owned land in the most Southeastern corner of AL where FL and the river meet AL. He does not appear in any other census. His widowed daughter-in-law charges on his account as late as 1864. Before all of you write to tell me about different spelling possibilities for him, be aware that I always look at BOIET/BOYT/BOYETT/BOYETTE. There was a Henry Boit who was a seafaring man who left Boston to go to FL and was never heard from. If this is my Henry, it would explain a persistent story in our family of a Northerner who came south as a missionary to the Indians. (Although, it doesn't explain why he decided to fight them instead!) Does anyone have any ideas about where to look for him? Thanks, Julia in TN
