Mike, as you apparently found out, there is only one "Heloise Mc-anything" with the birthdate you list for your aunt, Heloise McInnes (nee Scott-Williams) in the SSDI nationwide. Her SS-5 Social Security application was filed, apparently, in Indiana before 1951, and should we need to get that, it CAN take up to four months. I'd recommend the death-certificate route. There are other possible approaches: voting records, city directories, deeds, probates, etc., but I'd start with the death, were I you. If she is the correct one, she died on 10 January 1973 in Dade County, Florida, and the death index recites her birthdate as the one you gave (12 June 1897). Hoping that an obituary could help, I called the excellent Renee Pierce, head of the excellent genealogy department of the Miami-Dade Library for an obituary check. She reports that there is apparently no obituary. The certificate of death is at Vol. 3816, certificate #1938. If you will let me know that you want it, will give me your snail-address, and are willing to wait the several weeks it will take them to get it to me, I'd be pleased to provide you with a copy (no charge--my treat). Once you have that, you MIGHT be able to get survivor information from the funeral director or the cemetery of her interment. If any of this is of interest, let me know. --Brian Michaels in Palatka, FL ******************************************************** Mike Scott-Williams wrote: > > Hi Listers, > > I have what may be a bit of a "long shot" to ask of you. > My father's eldest sister, HELOISE SCOTT-WILLIAMS left South Africa in the > early 1930's for the U.S.A. > She went via England, and the last the family heard from her was by post > from Massachusetts. > It is said she married in South Africa before she left to a Mc or Mac > something, so she would not have arrived in the U.S. with the name > Scott-Williams.
