Colonel Richard Parish was in Leon County in the very early 1820's and was a large land owner there. He took part in the Seminole War (1836) and one of his daughters was the wife of Nathan Byrd whose son Doctor Flavius Augustus was born 1822 in Cumberland County, North Carolina and married in Leon County Catherine D.
