My husband's great-aunt was born in Florida, in 1858, according to the 1860 Chelsea, MA census. Her name--Nellie Gardner Pratt. Her parents were Frank Greenwood Pratt and Kathryn Gardner (Hancock). There was a marriage for a Frank G Pratt and a Kathryn Hancock about the right time in Providence RI. There is a family tradition that there was a connection to the Hancocks. So we don't know if Kathryn was a Gardner who married a Hancock and then married Frank Pratt, or if her maiden name was Kathryn Gardner Hancock. The name Gardner was carried down for two or three more descendants. Kathryn was born in NC according to the census. We have information on the Pratts. Frank was born in Salem. He was a cotton merchant--which I suppose could account for being in Florida. However, he lived in Chelsea in 1860. By 1870 he was in Memphis TN where he died in 1871. His son Frank Greenwood Pratt was born in Chelsea in April 1860. Family stories say Kathryn was married 5 times, but she was still known as Kathryn Gardner Pratt in censuses through 1880, as she was living with dtr, Nellie and her family. We know that she married in 1910 to a C H Wiley in Locke Mills, ME, but cannot find a record of that marriage. Seems highly unlikely but would like to find a birth record for Nellie in Florida.
