    3. "Jefferson County, Florida" by Jerrell H. Shofner: Page 48 "Under an 1830 territorial enactment, elections for militia officers were held at the call of Colonel James L. Parish, commander of the Ninth Regiment. As captain of a volunteer company of cavalry William R. Taylor received 16 votes to five for Joel Conyer. For the infantry companies, Levi Harris was elected captain and Noah P. Suggs lieutenant of one; Alexander R. Murray became captain of the other with John Johnson as first lieutenant and L. M. K.
