    2. There is a new communication being distributed throughout the genealogical community regarding the USPS fining Odom Library and their publication Family Tree for their use of non-profit mailing rates. I was already preparing an article for Florida Lines regarding the increasing number of genealogical publications (newsletters and quarterlies) in which I have noticed ads and that are being mailed with non-profit mailing rates. the rules under which this postage rate is granted prohibit selling and printing advertisements and using these rates. While we enjoy, and even rely on, all the good information printed in Family Tree, they are not complying with the rules and regulations. The item also refers to the fact that they are printing travel information and the government is taking them to task for that. It is my understanding that NO advertising is permitted and Family Tree certainly has a large number of advertisements that do not relate to travel. This may have just been the one example under which they are being fined. This seems to be another case where the genealogical community needs to show restraint and get all the facts before jumping on someone, some group, or the government. Possibly with all of us working together we can find a solution for Family Tree. I think the first step is being sure we all send in a donation each and every year to show our thanks. I try to do this at Thanksgiving or when the majority of my other genealogical dues are payable so that I don't forget. If you throw away the paper after reading it, possibly you could find someone else to share with so that so many copies don't have to be printed. Any other ideas? Leslie Jeffcoat Maddocks
