    1. Fw: Records Question

    3. A couple of you asked me to post my responses to this question here they are. Since I found an earlier Court Record threatenaing to sell 100 acres of Zachariah's land to recoup 72 1/2 cents in past due taxes, the first one seems most likely. Thanks to you all who responded. Since I didn't ask firs, I did not include your names but I appreciate the assistance. Posted before Lovet Rives, Esq. >>by Zachariah Judkins" Response 1: Anyone have any idea what this transaction might be about? The "sorrell" horse refers to its color. Sorrells are a dark red, with a red or flaxen(white) mane and tail. The white streak down the face is also called a blaze, or stripe. $20 was a paultry sum to pay for a horse by today's standard, but in the 1800's it was quite a good price. Probably Lovet Rives, Esq. was a magistrate of some kind, who handled the posting or advertisement for the horse. It was either sold as a settlement of an estate, or it was sold to sold to satisfy a lein in the court. Action was brought by Zachariah Judkins. Response 2: Probably owed the man money so was paying with a horse. Response 3. Probably Mr Judkins found a stray to which he is laying claim.
