Hi everyone, My name is Brenda, and I'm new to the list. I'm hoping someone can help me with a short story of sorts I found in my gggrandfather's bible. Some of if I cannot make out. The story says: 200 feet east of this highway is the tomb of Mary Wyatt Whitaker. Born in Talahassie Flu, 1831.Daughter of Wm. Wyatt, member of convention which gone to state of Flu its first constitution. Mother of first white child born in what is now Sarasota county 1852. 300 yards west of this highway stood her home which was burned by indians 1856, from whom she fled for safety with her child to a Palmetto Bay fort on manaty river. (Not sure of spelling or fort or river). Erected 1936 by Sara De (unable to make out) chapter DAR. I hope someone can help shed some light on this story. Thanks for any help.
