    1. Re: Williams Death records in Florida

    3. Bobbye, I checked, but nothing good resulted, I regret to report. In the 1877-1916 there were 18 James Williamses, with no way to distinguish among them except date and place of death. Age and birthplace are not part of the index. There was no Fletcher at all in 1877-1916. There was one bl. male Fletcher Williams, d. DeSoto Co, 1922. There were 3 Hannahs, all black females in Jax., DeSoto County, and Jefferson Co--2 died in 1905, 1 in 1914. There were 34 Jameses in the 1917-22 alone, along with 80 Williamses w/no first name given. One Walter (bl. male) died Jax 1916; one Walter T. (wh. male) d Escambia Co. d. 1916. My fears were realized; sorry. If I were you, I'd check the indexed US censuses for Florida in 1900, 1910, and 1920--and the unindexed state census for 1935--to see if I couldn't come up with some y closer estimates and parameters. FYI: Florida began requiring death certificates after 1899, but records before 1917 are really spotty and some people don't have records even into the 1930s. Marriage records date back to territorial days in the counties; central registration of marriages and annulments and divorces began 6 June 1927. Prior to that, the records are found only in the several counties. Good luck! --Brian ********************************************** BOBBYE wrote: > > Brian this is the best that I can do: > On the 1880 census in Sumter Col . Fletcher was 48 .
