    3. Does Florida have a state census? If so, what is the one closest to 1935 that is open to the public for research? Is there a special Rootsweb list to which I should subscribe? Thank you. William Chilton Peterborough, ON. Canada william.chilton@sympatico.ca

    1. Sarasota Genealogical Conference January 28, 2006
    2. Darrel R. Bell
    3. I'm Vicky Scott and I've sent e-mails and asked you to announce our conference on the 28th of January. I'm writing again because I need it to continue to be announced. Our response has been underwhelming, a lot of the publicity we counted on fell through and we have no way to recover except to continue to ask all genealogy groups in Florida to continue to announce this event at their meetings and via e-mail if possible. We have three excellent speakers. Leaders and forerunners in the Genetics/Genealogy arena. Our moderator and emcee has a PhD in biology. We are giving out four door prizes; they are DNA test certificates a value of up to $100 each. And last but not least, we have a 128 page reference that includes articles, websites and books all either on the genetics side or genealogy and in several instances both. Again, this is an all day conference called: DNA: Genetics and Genealogy, A Scientific Approach to Research. We will open the doors at 8 am for registration and the program will begin at 9:00 at Sahib Shrine Center, 600 N. Beneva Road , Sarasota, FL. For additional information people may contact: GSS. FL. USA@gmail.com <mailto:USA@gmail.com> or go to the website: www.rootsweb.com/~flgss/ <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eflgss/> or call Vicky at (941) 388-9827 for additional information. The price will be $45.00 and if I'm e-mailed with the name of people that will be attending and paying at the door by Friday, I will make sure there is printed material available for everyone and they will be having lunch there. I think this is a remarkable value and sure prove to be an outstanding event. Thank you for your help, Vicky Scott Genealogical Society of Sarasota

Ship's Passenger Lists circa 1935 I hope someone on this list can help me. I am trying to trace a person who was living in Tampa, Florida in 1935 and he may have sailed to Burmuda or some point in South America. My questions are: What are the names of the ports for ships sailing from Florida to foreign destinations? Would the port of departure keep records of passengers (in case the ship sunk enroute)? If so, would these records have been saved and where might I locate them? Any help would be appreciated. William Chilton Peterborough, ON. Canada william.chilton@sympatico.ca

    3. Looking for information on the family of George PIKE & Elizabeth Brown JEANS. Elizabeth Brown JEANS was born in Catalina, Newfoundland in 1881. George PIKE was born in Newfoundland but unknown dates. They had at least two children George Jr & Eleanor possibility born/residing in Florida. I have/had a picture of Eleanor(??) PIKE in a newspaper clipping winning a bowling prize in Florida in the 1970's. A cousin/relation of Eleanor's was Ruby Blake JEANS who married Howard James BOWERS. Ruby was my Aunt. She was born 1921 in St John's, Newfoundland & died in Florida in 1981. Howard was an American serviceman stationed in Newfoundland during WW 2. Have extensive JEANS date but would love to learn more about the George PIKE & Elizabeth JEANS line. Debbie Jeans, CG(C) Certified Genealogist (Canada) St.John's, Newfoundland

    2. I have access to census records. If you desire a look up in census records I can look for you. Many data bases for NY can be found on http://www.stevemorse.org/ but or the time frame you are seeking there is not much data. If you want to obtain a birth record you can do it via e mail by going to http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TUB.2ACI/4587.1 Bob

    2. Hi Listers I'm in need of help in obtaining BC and information in and about the state of New York. Is there knowledgeable person on this list that could point me in the correct direction? I know this is our Florida list but I've never researched a lot state side and really I need to move my research here now. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for information on Jacob Washington DIMOND who died in London, England in 1881 and on the Census it reads that he was born in New York, so you see this is my reason for seeking research ideas for the state of New York. 3. This is a special message to all CANADIANS lucky enough to forget about shovelling snow, sliding on ice and having problems on highways when the highway has not received a coating of something to make driving easier Canadians living in warmer climates, either as Snowbirds or as permanent residents, who still retain Canadian citizenship, might be able to vote in the coming January 23, 2006 election. They would be voting by Special Ballot --see www.elections.ca Click on either Snowbirds or I'm Mailing My Vote Incidentally, many Canadians in United States did not know they could vote if out of the country.
