    2. curt parrish
    3. Hello, All: This is probably a dumb question, but where on the worldwide web can one obtain Florida marriage records? I'm specifically looking for a marriage in Orange county in approximately 1960. Also looking for Orange county births in the 1939-1941 time span. Thanks, Curt, Melbourne

    2. We are tracing Thompson family lineage (State Senator William Naylor Thompson, Jr. of Nassau Co, FL) and see his family on the 1860 Census in Alachua Co, Division 17, with the reference "P.O. Newnansville". Can anyone tell me where Newnansville is/was? Would appreciate having my curiosity satisfied! Thanks. John LaMotte (JOLaMotte@AOL.COM)

    1. Need a researcher for North West Florida genealogy.
    2. Hey, my name is Steve Forehand, and I am from Panama City FL. I have been working on the Forehand Line for about two years and have gather lots of information. I now need the services of a professional Genealogist to help me put together all the information I have. There are many clues and my line could have been in FL as early as 1830. I need a sharp mind with acess to the Archives in Tallahasse to help finalize this project I have been working on. Anyone who could help me finish this project, please contact me with your terms and conditions. The areas I have research for the Forehand line stretches from Tallahassee to Holmes Co. The first dates I have is land purchases in 1830. Later in 1850 my line shows up in Holmes Co., where it still exist today. I have most of the pieces I just need it looked over by a professional. Thanks So much. Steve in Panama.

    2. POOLE
    3. I have heard through the grapevine that there are very early Florida census from the 1700's archived in St. Augustine, but I do not know where. Since I've seen so many inquiries regarding early census, perhaps one of you would like to follow up on this. Hope it helps! Perhaps the local library in St. Augustine would have some information. Good luck! Maureen

    3. Hi Mareen - I suspect what ever there is of <census> from the Spanish days is either at the St. Augustine Historical Society or among the Spanish papers on microfilm at the National Archives in Washington DC. These microfilm can be purchased but the number is great. There IS a sketchy index of all the microfilm. Also I seem to recall that copies of the microfilms of the Spanish papers may in the FLA state archives or library. Some local libraries may have these and perhaps LDS in Salt Lake City. The Ga Gen Magazine many years ago published a transcription of the 1780s Spanish census. Ed T of PGH

    3. Bill Coker's book THE SPANISH CENSUSES OF PENSACOLA, 1784-1820: A Genealogical Guide to Spanish Pensacola, was published in 1980. It is out-of-print. I was talking to Bill yesterday here in the office and telling him that our copie(s) were going to be quite worn out from the Florida-L list! Anyway, these "censuses" are compilations of materials which were produced by the Catholic Church, Spanish government, etc. for various reasons. They are not all "true" censuses in listing every occupant of Pensacola or the West Florida region but the come quite close. And by matching the lists (Bill indexed all the names) we get some good ideas of who is here and why. There are "censuses" for 1784, 1788, 1791, 1796, 1798, 1802, 1803, 1805, 1819, 1820...along with lists of soldiers and troop strengths at the Spanish forts here. Several years after publication of these "censuses," Bill discovered a few more and these appear in the Florida Historical Quarterly, July 1982 (v. 61), pp. 54-63 and are "precept" lists (Catholic Church lists of parish members and non-members(!) Coker's census compilations are also supported by Jack D. L. Holmes' unpublished "Pensacola Settlers 1781-1821." At the present time, we've started getting new records from Spain to cover the Pensacola settlements for the 1698-1731 period and Dr. Wayne Childers is beginning to translate these records to give us an idea of life (and people) in Pensacola at that time. I will be happy to check Coker's works and Holmes compilation for names anyone is interested in. Please send me e-mail (and not to the list). On a final note, the two Florida's (Colonies of East Florida and West Florida) were not united until their transfer to Andrew Jackson in 1821. Thus there may also exist censuses, etc. for East Florida (St. Augustine, the capital), and frankly this is out of my area, both geographically (400 miles east of here) and technically. 2. I have ordered a copy of my great grandfather's death certificate and have a ten year search ordered to find our when he died inFlorida. I used a credit card and it was not cheap. By doing it this way you get it sooner but it will have cost me about 39.00 and if they do not find out anything I will be out the money. I called the State office in Florida. They are very nice, but it still costs money. Are there any people willing to do lookups on the Florida Census or marriage records or birth records that would not cost an arm and a leg? My William (Doc) Higginbotham married a T. Thompson and she was born in 1870 and he was born in 1859.T. was his 3rd wife. I guess he made the rounds. The 1910 census only shows their names and how old they were at the time and their childrens names and ages. The birth towns and birth dates were not on it. The 1920 census only lists the children and no parents. This new info that he had other wives opens many questions as when he married the others and who child was from which mom. I would love to hear from anyone who has some suggestions for me to try. Margie

    2. For those of you who have wanted a Jackson Co., FL Marriage Book 1900-1973 for your home library, or to give to a Public Library. Indexed by Bride: $40.00 Indexed by Groom: $40.00 Plus $3.00 for shipping Because we put the data online we don't get many request for books. We price the books to make $5.00 profit and this goes to help buy stamps and copy material and pay to mail material to volunteers to type for the internet. I have 3 requests at this time. Betty

    1. ADDITIONAL CENSUS INFORMATION
    2. Ron Thompson
    3. Hello, I have some information on what is available from the Florida State Census on one of my web pages. First let me mention that there was no 1955 census. The state abolished the census in 1949. Not much survives but two of the really good ones are the 1935 and 1945. Unlike the federal government there is no 72 year waiting period and these can be viewed now. The information on the web page came from the State Archives site but appears to no longer be available there. The microfilm is available there and possibly elsewhere. < http://www.psy.fsu.edu/~thompson/info/fl_census.html > Ron Wakulla County FL < http://mailer.fsu.edu/~rthompso/wakulla.html > Franklin County, FL < http://mailer.fsu.edu/~rthompso/franklin.html > Florida US Civil War Genealogy < http://www.psy.fsu.edu/~thompson/fl_acw/fl_acw.html >

    1. Reed Genealogy
    2. Helen J. Logue
    3. Hello Reeds (by any spelling) My name is Helen (aka) Nell Logue and I am researching the Reeds. My family line is the Reeds of Mississippi and Texas mainly. A few went to California, and a few somewhere else. What I propose to do is get all of these Reeds into one large database and see if we can make any connections. That is where I will need your help. I need every Reed (by any spelling) to send me a GEDCOM or whatever information you have on the Reeds. I will call them "unattached Reeds" or something of the order. When I do make a connection then that bunch of Reeds will be put in my Reed Database. Until then they will be kept separate. As I add to the database I will make sure you are aware of the change. I hope everyone who reads this will participate. It is going to take a lot of hard work and I will need all the help I can get. What I want is Reeds from Alabama, Arkansas, NY, Michigan, Kentucky, any state in the United States. Any questions? If you are ready, I am. Let's get the Reeds rolling. Start sending your information any way you know how. GEDCOM is really a good way to send lots of information at one time. But if you have a better system, use it. Hope to hear from you Reeds soon. Helen (aka) Nell Logue P.S. Should you get more than one of these letters, please forgive me. It is going to take some doing to find all of you Reeds and even more doing to keep you separated, but I will do my best.

    3. Hi Listmembers, I am hoping a fellow Florida researcher can help me. My 2 great aunts were married in Florida but I cannot find where. If anyone has access to Fla marriage records and if you have time (LOL) please check to see if the following marriages are listed: Judson Sherman RUSSELL and Tracie OYER married 28 Aug 1907 Harry H. GILBERT and Maud OYER married 9 Jan 1915 These dates are from the family bible. I have tracked these 2 sisters in the 1900 Marion Fla census, 1910 St Lucie Fla census. In 1920 Tracie Oyer Russell was in Polk Fla and Maud Oyer Gilbert had died but her family is listed in 1920 Pinellas Fla. Needless to say I have checked all the above counties and even some of the surrounding ones to no avail. As you are doing your research I would greatly appreciate your keeping an eye out for my OYER aunts. Thanks in advance. Sheila from Alaska casperfamily@mosquitonet.com
