Hi Antoinette, The URL below is for the Alachua County FL genweb site. There are usually a number of volunteers listed from the local area who are willing to do research for people. Also there is always the chance the information you need is listed on the site or links to get to it. Don't forget the local genealogical society or historical society. Check for published county histories. The University of Florida is there, too. They should have a wealth of information on local history. Hope this helps Gayle http://www.rootsweb.com/~flalachu/ > Good evening, > I am looking for information on plantations in area of Gainesville, > Florida. Good evening, I am looking for information on plantations in area of Gainesville, Florida. I'd like to know where exactly they were located and the names of them, and the owner. I recently got this reply from the webmaster of the web site of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Eastern States, General Land Office (GLO) Records Automation web site. I was asking about a military land patent issued to my ancestor in Florida. "We only have a limited number of military bounty warrants entered into our GLO patent database as of yet. Most of those in our system are for War of 1812 service and were issued for lands in Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois; we also have some warrants for Revolutionary War service that were issued in Ohio. Those two types of warrants were bound in volumes specific to those states; the vast majority of military bounty warrants were not - those records will be scanned and indexed into our system several years down the road." This clears it up for me. But now I wonder, where can you find the military land warrents?--especially those issued for Indian War service. Sheila Casper casperfamily@mosquitonet.com

Just after my last message, I did find a story on Gov. Chiles' death. How tragic and what a loss. I agree that, regardless of politics and party we should all honor his long service to his country and state. Paul M. Hendricks

I have been unable to find anything about this on the web news pages. If so, it is a great loss. I remember then Senator Chiles coming to FSU when I was a student there in the '70's and stopping by the student union to talk with a small group of students (including me) totally improptu. I've always thought highly of him and hoped he would have a great retirement. I hope I misunderstood this message, but please let me know if he actually has passed away. Paul M. Hendricks

My gg aunt, Jennie D. Teyler FISH, lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Broward, FL, in 1946 when her sister died. She was born 14 Feb 1869 in Russell's Grove, IL. She apparently had three children, Harry Teyler Fish, Nellie D. and Gladys Fish. Harry registered for the draft in WWI in Palm Beach, FL. I don't know when or where she died, nor do I have any other information about her children. She was in Washington, D.C. in the 1920 census, listed as widowed. In another census she was listed as divorced form her husband, "J. Fish". Is there a Florida death index? Any information or clues about how to find these people will be much appreciated. I'd love to contact some family members! Best Regards, Janet B. Weaver
