I'm searching for 2 lost cousins that would be in their early 30's. In the 1960's, Larry BAILEY married Linda SWIMFORD in Miami, Dade Co., FL. They had 2 daughters, Karen Sue Bailey and Kimberly Sue Bailey born about 1967 & 1969. Linda and Larry divorced and Larry committed suicide in 1978. Linda remarried, but as far as I know, the girls weren't adopted, but grew up as BAILEYs. They have an aunt that recently had a heart attack and has been looking for them for years. Any help at all would be most appreciated. Linda will still live in Florida. She always said she would never move, but I know nothing about the residences or names of the girls. Thanks in advance. For the next two weeks I will do lookups for my AL and FL lists cousins in "They Died at Ft. Delaware." This is a comprehensive list of CSA soldiers who died in Union prison and are buried at Finn's Pt. (mostly). At one point during the war 22,000 CSA soldiers were or had been at Ft. Delaware. Many were captured at Gettysburg so if you are missing a soldier, he may be here. PLEASE put Ft. DE lookup in the subject line and give me a name. Do not ask for "All Smiths," etc. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Julia in icy TN. At least we have electricity in Nashville.

I feel that I just got a Christmas present of a sort from Corinne Hanna Diller - Cdiller@juno.com - a genealogist whom I have never met but who came up with some pretty good ideas on preponderance of proof and primary documents. Like you, I have done most of my research on the theory that I had to find primary, i.e. legal contemporary documents. At least three of them, before I could put names without asterisks in my Family Tree Maker. But Mrs. Diller makes a great case for using detailed diligent expansive research along with some good deductive reasoning and good judgment as corroborating proof. (Notice the adjectives -- detailed, diligent, expansive as well as good and good.) I now feel right about entering a couple of more generations in my Tree. I KNOW they were my ancestors. Until now, I just cold not provide the proof. And I have new directions for my search for others in the coming year. But don't run off halfcocked on my say-so. Read what Ms. Diller has to say, the preponderance of proof she offers that this is a legitimate method! You will find her article in the current issues of The Signal, biweekly newsletter of USIGS, US Internet Genealogical Society. I am willing to trade lookups in hillsborough County or Pinellas County Courthouse records in exchange for a couple of lookups in Dade County and Orange or Seminole County. These records include Hillsborough County probate, marriage or divorce records Pinellas probate, marriage or divorce records Pinellas Co also keeps local copies of their death certificates. They will pull a copy if you appear in person, which is faster than writing to Jacksonville. Does anyone know if Dade, Orange or Seminole Counties keep local copies of their death certificates? If you need deeds, i will try to find them, though I am less familiar with those records. If you are interested in a trade, please respond off list. Thanks
