I'm trying to get ahold of an article from a very old issue of South Florida Pioneers. What I need is in Volume 10, October 1976, and do not have any place near me that would have an archive. The article concerns the Noel Rabun Raulerson and Tempie Whidden family. Please email me at jason-ferguson@usa.net if you can help. Thanks. I realize that this is not a direct response to the question, but rather I am taking an opportunity to pass along a caveat. I have an ancestor, Andrew Haven, who served in the First Florida Mounted Militia and died on militia duty in May 1838. I got that information from the compiled Florida War file in the National Archives many years ago. The book does not list him. Nor is the muster roll showing his service among those copied from the National Archives and placed in the Florida State Archives. I suspect that what happened is that since the records were compiled, that particular muster roll was misplaced, lost, destroyed or whatever. I have no idea how pervasive the problem may be. It's probably not pervasive at all. That may be the only muster roll affected. Or it may not. The point is that the various books that we use are secondary sources and may not include complete information or information as accurate as the primary source or some other, unpublished, secondary source such as the compiled service record. An example of another problem, from another source, is that in _Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Florida_, Lillian Henderson mangled and confused the identity of my great great grandfather J. E. Autry way above and beyond some slight confusion already present in the Compiled Confederate Service Record. Because Henderson had custody of J.E. Autry's widow's pension record, that should not have happened; but it did. Such books are indispensible resources, but they are nowhere near the final word. Folks, The Clinch County page now includes the CSA Military Units that they participated in and a partial lists of the names of the cemeteries found in the area. Soon to come is the 1850 census of the portion of the county that was cut from Lowndes and additional info about the counties surrounding it. Take a look it is shaping up nicely...I add something new every day.

I am looking for a "half-cousin" who shares a grandfather with me. My cousin's name is Buford Sherwood, Jr. and our grandfather was Cason Sherwood, Sr. of Macon, Ga. I am hoping he can provide some info about his part of our family that will help me continue my ancestral search. I think he lives in the Tallahasee area. Jennifer S. Braswell
Does anyone have access to the books of Fla. Militia muster rolls of Seminole Indian Wars. I have the name of persons , the volume number as well as page #s and would appreciate info it contains. I would just like to see what they say. One is a 1 page thing and the other contains 2 pages. I would pay for Xerox copies if they are of any value. Thanks Sarah

There is a new communication being distributed throughout the genealogical community regarding the USPS fining Odom Library and their publication Family Tree for their use of non-profit mailing rates. I was already preparing an article for Florida Lines regarding the increasing number of genealogical publications (newsletters and quarterlies) in which I have noticed ads and that are being mailed with non-profit mailing rates. the rules under which this postage rate is granted prohibit selling and printing advertisements and using these rates. While we enjoy, and even rely on, all the good information printed in Family Tree, they are not complying with the rules and regulations. The item also refers to the fact that they are printing travel information and the government is taking them to task for that. It is my understanding that NO advertising is permitted and Family Tree certainly has a large number of advertisements that do not relate to travel. This may have just been the one example under which they are being fined. This seems to be another case where the genealogical community needs to show restraint and get all the facts before jumping on someone, some group, or the government. Possibly with all of us working together we can find a solution for Family Tree. I think the first step is being sure we all send in a donation each and every year to show our thanks. I try to do this at Thanksgiving or when the majority of my other genealogical dues are payable so that I don't forget. If you throw away the paper after reading it, possibly you could find someone else to share with so that so many copies don't have to be printed. Any other ideas? Leslie Jeffcoat Maddocks
