Wow! I just subscribed to this list yesterday, asked two questions, received about 20 responses! Thank you, folks. I now know St. Andrew's Bay is in/near/a part of Panama City in present-day Bay County, but in 1880, would have been a part of another county. Now for another question. My mystery relative was referred to as a "St. Andrew's Bay, FL Promoter" in 1886. In 1856, this man was a cotton gin maker in Alabama. ------>Q. What would he be possibly promoting in 1886 in FL? St. Andrew's Bay itself? Cotton gins? Something else?<------------- He is listed as "Dr. Joseph Cornelius DuBois;" we don't know what he was a doctor of, but one brother was an M.D., another a dentist. Any wild speculation or more highly-reasoned responses welcome! Elizabeth

I am currently working on a transcription of the 1900 Lee County census. This census lists the persons birthplace and the birthplace of their parents. I have come across two people who have their parents birthplace listed as "New Province". There is something written over the top of New Province which looks like VT on one, VI on one, and OT on two of them. I can't find New Province in any Atlas I've looked at, yet I'm sure that's what it says. Does anyone know where this is? If you'd like to see the work in progress, the addresses are: http://www.thesouthernedge.com/gen/1900census.txt Buckingham, Alva, Allen Place and http://www.thesouthernedge.com/gen/1900census2.txt Myers Town Thanks, Lori http://www.thesouthernedge.com/

Anyone with access to the above Florida indexes-- We don't have them in CT, and they were missing from the National Archives when I was there two weeks ago. So, any help would be very appreciated in locating this gentleman: 1. JOSEPH CORNELIUS DUBOIS (born 2/13/1831) More About JOSEPH CORNELIUS DUBOIS: Newspaper Article: 1/14/1886, Refers to Dr. J. C. DuBois, St. Andrews Bay, FL Promoter Occupation: 1856, cotton gin maker And no, this family has not been researched anywhere that I can tell.
Where is/was St. Andrew's Bay? I have a lost family member for whom I only have the following info (other than his parents and siblings who all but one stayed in Alabama; the other went to Louisiana) JOSEPH CORNELIUS DUBOIS born 2/13/1831 in Alabama Newspaper Article: 1/14/1886, Refers to Dr. J. Hello Everyone The first FRAUDULENT LINEAGES/UPDATE containing more lines corrupted by the forger Gustave ANJOU is now ready for viewing. This problem is far greater than just simply the lines we have indicated in the two reports. Many collateral lines have used these works, unaware the frauds exist, and is a situation all family researchers must become aware of. There are over One Hundred family "genealogies" listed that have been corrupted by Gustave ANJOU alone. New ones are showing up daily.. You must become aware of what is out there and where to locate them. This section of our web site will grow with updates and is open to all. The URL for our website is; http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/ On the first page of the site look for the link FRAUDULENT LINEAGES. Enter there and look for the UPDATE # 1 File. Both Tampa and Orlando libraries (main) have 1935 and 1945 Florida census microfilms for all Florida counties. FYI: Neither is indexed. :( Hope that helps........... Here at Bay County Public Library we have the 1935 for Holmes and Bay and the 1945 for Bay. I think Jacksonville Public Library has a complete set, and I'm sure Pam Hall must have one at Indian River. Anybody else? >>
Trying to track a George A. Davis that died in Polk County,Fl in 1923. He was issued a land patent in 1905 in Highlands County Fl for 160 acres. I think he committed suicide but am not certain. I believe his wife was of Latin descent and he immigrated from Wales. Highlands County was part of DeSota County around that period Alex Hull
The Hillsborough County main library in downtown Tampa has the 1885, 1935 and 1945 state censuses on microfilm. It also has the index to the 1885 census. There are 30 rolls in the 1935 census and 43 rolls for the 1945 census, In addition they have the soundexes for the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 federal censuses. They have started adding soundexes for other states, including Ga., Al., NY, Mass and a couple of others that I don't remember. You can search their holdings though their web page. I think it's www.thpl.lib.fl.us, or you can search for it by the phrase "Suncoast Free Net". Hope this helps.

I am looking for information on William H. Creel. William was born abt. 1853 according to census reports and he was born in Fl. (however I have seen census where the state of birth is given as Ga.). In 1860 & 1870 William H. Creel was living in the household of his mother Piety Creel in Berrien Co., Ga. William married in Ga. and eventually moved to Fl. I think the move was probably made around 1890 because in 1889 when his daughter Samantha Jane Creel was born he was living in Ga. In 1900, William H. Creel and his family was living in Polk Co., Fl. He died sometime after 1931 in Eagle Lake, Fl. As a little girl I remember going to Eagle Lake to look for his grave as well as the grave of his wife Mary Jane Candance Fletcher Creel. We could not find the graves so I assume they were never marked. I don't know the name of the cemetery, I can barely remember looking for the graves. One of William H. Creel's daughters, Florence Creel married a Wiggins from Lakeland, Fl. My ggrandmother Samantha Jane Creel married David Curry from Berrien Co., Ga. and returned to Ga. to live out her life. William also had a daughter named Missouri and I know he had a son named Johnny Creel and another named Cleve Creel. I remember seeing Johnny Creel and Cleve Creel one time as a young girl. Missouri, & Florence were older than Samantha but Johnny & Cleve were younger. As far as I know other than Samantha the others remained in Fl. From the 1860 & 1870 Ga. census I know William H. Creel had older brothers named John W. Creel and Levi (or could be Lewis) Creel. William also had two sisters one named Lucinda Creel and the other named Bethany Creel. Bethany was born around 1855 in Ga. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. I have very little except the information on my immediate family. Rhonda
You who are putting up new web sites or who are updating them for the new year -- Do you know what the largest single complaint is about the dozens of new websites offered to genealogical researchers? Not citing sources!! Results of a recent poll on using internet rescues put this complaint on the top of the list! It also is the biggest single factor in rejecting sites nominated for the prestigious Siggy award from USIGS. No citing -- no citation. John Gideon, who chairs the Siggy award committee, calls attention to the problems of not citing sources in an article in the latest Signal, biweekly newsletter of USIGS. Click here: USIGS SIGNAL January 1, 1999 or try http>//www.usigs.org/signal/signal.htm I for one deeply appreciate all of you who have directed me to your websites, especially those USGenweb pages for individual counties. On many I have found some great information, and some great clues. But I too have been frustrated by the lack of documentation. A great New Year's Resolution, everybody? No longer sighting uncitely sites -- we can say we "sank same!" love joan
