Betty, Betty, Betty... That's what meta search engines are for. You friend needs only to look at: http://www.iu.net/melbourne/city/history.html It was easily found using metacrawler. One caution, though. Some purveyor of "porn" has recently set up under the name "metacrawl" so do not shorten the name unless you *want* to find *that* site! RW

Hello.... Has anyone done research at a Family History Center of the LDS? I have reached a point where I must go to one in order to finish my work. My problem is I am a legally blind veteran and will need my wife to go along to be my "eye". Neither of us know anything about the Centers. Are their systems complex? Would we be wasting our time? Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks....Joe Clawges

The Florida State Genealogical Society would like to announce that the first eleven years of "The Florida Genealogist" have been put on microfiche. The microfiche are $30.00 for the set or you may purchase them bundled with "The Florida Genealogist Index Volumes I-X: 1977-1987", a 321 page hard-bound book, for $50.00. Order from: John H. Baxley, 1909 W. Hanna Ave., Tampa, FL 33604-6315. (The discrepancy of years 1977-1987, which is 11, and volumes I-X, which is ten, occurred when the membership year changed from mid-year to January and quarterlies were adjusted.) Leslie
Hello, List, I am currently searching for my great grandmother and great grandfather who, according to family lore, married in Bartow, Polk Co, Fl on June 06, 1906. I believe that Frankie may have been living with cousins, the Frank Anderson family. Could someone do a look up for me in the 1900 census, and a marriage look up? I would be forever greatful. Hitting my head against numerous brick walls, Debby Davis Lantz

This is from James Mathews, who is doing the research on the homesteads on Eglin. If anyone has any information on this family, he would be most grateful. For those who don't know about the project, they are trying to find out as much information as possible about the lives of those who homesteaded on Eglin. ---------- > From: James Mathews <jhm@cybertron.com> > > Certainly appreciate it as J. Please, let's not tie up the "airways" with numerous posts about this, but if you recieve an e-mail with this attachment, simply delete the attachment. The message may be read, but trash the attachment. It seems the genealogy community is being inundated with this thing. It is not a virus and will NOT trash your system. For more information: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html It DOES point out the importance of NEVER opening an executable attachment unless you know the source and the reason for the attachment. I have often gotten something from someone who does not know much about computers and saved the file off to my hard drive so I can scan it with an antivirus program before opening it. Sorry if this is deemed off-topic, but it IS going around. I, myself received it and inadverdantly passed it on to one person. No harm was done and both of us cleaned our systems Regards, Mary Ellen e-mail: mewexler@buffnet.net Co-host Okaloosa County FLGenWeb page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~flokaloo/Okaloosa.htm Edge mailing list: EDGE-L@rootsweb.com Harvey mailing list: HARVEY-L@rootsweb.com EDGE/HARVEY family page: http://www.buffnet.net/~mewexler/ Genealogy Help page: http://www.buffnet.net/~mewexler/help_pg.htm
On the following URL which I have been happily using until this morning with great success and no problems I am suddenly getting the following message-Does anyone know when and why this has changed. It obviously has because this was not happening 36 hours ago. Thank those who responded to my inquiry concerning Coats of Arms, especially Peggy Monroe. The College of Arms says: "There is no such thing as a Coat of Arms for a surname, as Coats of Arms belong only to the original grantees and their descendants in the male line." "Anyone who can establish a direct male line of descent from an ancestor whose arms are registered at the College is automatically entitled to those arms. Official recognition of this necessitates recording of the descent in the registers of the College of Arms." The reason I asked about the above was that a long time ago I saw a book that contained beautiful colored pictures of Coats of Arms granted in England.

Richard is correct that the coats of arms were issued to individuals, not families. But I think this URL wil clarify that for you. No. But I do know that there is no such thing as a generic coat of arms for everybody with the same last name. They are issued to particular and specific people. RW jbyrd16476 wrote: > > Does anyone know of a place on the web where a family Coat of Arms can be > downloaded?
Does anyone know of a place on the web where a family Coat of Arms can be downloaded?
Hi again....... I guess I did not make it clear that the year searched for the death of Thomas C. Hudson was 1935........thought maybe I had better clear that up. Dee
Hi...... I have conflicting information for the year of death of my great grandfather...... Thomas C. Hudson......... one date is for 1935..... the other for 1900. I requested a death certificate from the vital records of Fla and it came back saying that after a thorough search of the central registry of Florida, all counties included, they failed to find a record of his death for that year. Would anyone know if there was a mortality schedule for the state of Florida for the year 1900?......... or have access to the information therein? If so, could you please look up Thomas C. Hudson for that year and see if there is a listing..... by immediately returning the information received in the mail today they will do another search for the cost of $2 per year instead of having to start all over again from scratch. Only problem is........ what years do we search.....maybe it could be narrowed down if someone would be so kind as to search mortality schedule indexes for me....... at least eliminate some of the years. Thanks for any help received....... Dee
