Mike, I was just referring to her as your aunt Heloise McInnes who was born with the surname Scott-Williams. I don't know that this is she, but if I had to bet on it, I'd bet that it is.... Will post this to the Florida list in the hope Renee will see the thank-you and/or that someone else will know or can suggest something else. I'll order the death certificate today. Good luck! --Brian *********************************** pix wrote: > > Hi Brian. > Thank you ever so much for your most welcome response. > When I mentioned I had been looking for this connection for forty years I > wasn't joking! Well I had an interesting experience about adoption and birth certificates too. I have always known I was adopted. When I had my daughter in Florida I was sending for her birth certificate and I thought I would send for mine too. I got a surprise. When my birth certificate came there were 2. One prior to the adoption and one after! the original one had the birth mothers name (maiden) where she was born, how many other children she had, etc. Very interesting. But regardless of all that I have always considered my adoptive family my real family and I do genealogy on that family line. I am mildly curious but I have never tried to find the other family. I think one family is enough for anyone! Sheila casperfamily@mosquitonet.com
Jean, it should have been in the header of the one I sent (as a "Cc: <bmurphree@mail.dos.state.fl.us>"). Don't know what happened--sorry! --Brian ***************************************************** Jean and Everyone, The State Archives, now that the 1935 census is on microfilm, will not search it--even with a street address. Sorry for the outdated information. I spoke with Mr. Boyd Murphree of the Archives staff this morning. One would have to hire a private researcher to search the film at the Archives, same as at the libraries that hold the films. He has a list of independent researchers available for hire which he'll send if you'll e-mail your snail address to him at the address in the header above. If someone has easy access to the LDS FHC catalog, would he or she verify whether the 1935 FL STATE census is also available at local LDS family history centers and post the information and film-number list-wide? (Thanks!) Oh, by the way--the 1935 census is on thirty rolls of 35mm microfilm. It can be purchased from the Archives at $20 per individual roll (which may be cheaper than hiring a researcher for a given county). Allow 2-4 weeks for duplication, but it's usually faster than that. Your local library or society can buy it for $604 total. The Putnam County Society and Library just shared the cost and bought it as a memorial to our society's recently deceased treasurer, but we have no one available to do searches in it. As to the relatively new index to the 1885 Florida STATE census (which was patterned after the 1880 US census), Mr. Murphree has that at the Archives and will copy the entries for a single surname for 25 cents per page. Query him by e-mail as above, and he'll check and tell you how much to send for the copies. Both of these state censuses are packed with lots of invaluable information--enjoy! Hope this helps! --Brian ************************************************************************ Jeaninfl61@aol.com wrote: > > Hi, I noticed you said the Fl. The West Palm Beach Library has a website. I sent them email once and requested a listing in the City Directory. They copied it and sent it to me. Am glad to see you, Brian Michaels, so active on this list. I subscribed to Florida Living Magazine just to get your articles. They were a big help to a beginning genealogist. Thank you. Fellow researchers: The media has recently bombarded us with misleading information about Thomas Jefferson fathering Eston Hemings. I assisted Dr. Foster and know for a fact that he denied the public crucial information. Please go to web page: http://www.angelfire.com/va/TJTruth and at the bottom click on other links. If you think this should get into your media call your reporters. Please check Wall Street Journal March 11th (Ltr to editor). This false information must not corrupt our children and grandchildren's history books. I call upon interested scientists and historians to come forward and study this fiasco closely. Monticello will be on for 2 1/2 hours Fri April 2nd at 9AM EST on C-SPAN. They will have phone numbers listed near the front of the program for you to call in. Hi all, I have been told that Brown's was an experimental farm located somewhere near the Everglades, or possibly near Lake Okeechobee. I think it may have been associated with the government or a university. They were testing to find improved methods of farming (I think). I would like to know exactly where it was located, in which county, and if it is still operating. If so, has the name changed? Can anyone provide an address? And last but not least, I'd like to make contact with anyone who worked or works there now. Thanks in advance. Relatively, Patrice Green <greenhouse@phonetech.com>
