Hello, Am looking for any connections to my Family name of RENNEY. They originally were RENNIE, in the Kinnell, Angus area of Scotland, but moved into County Durham N.E. England in the early 1700s and became RENNEY. RENNEY is said to be the English spelling of the name. Andrew RENNIE, born 1698, at Kinnell Angus,Scotland, moved to Gateshead, County Durham, England, as a teenager, where he changed his name to RENNEY and married a local girl, Elizabeth HILLS, in 1716. That was the start of my immediate family, they were my 7X Grandparents, although the family has grown over the years and some have emigrated to other countries , the main family remains at County Durham, England today. If you know of any RENNEY please give them my address as I would like to hear from them. Web address :- [email protected] P. McKinley, 701, S. Dobson Road, #140. Mesa, Arizona, U.S.A. 85202. Regards, Pam [ RENNEY ] McKinley.

Hello Everyone: I am most interested in hearing from anyone who may be aware of any Misleading Family Histories published in this country from the 1800s through 1920. There are many of them out there and we would like to know their titles and why you believe they are either false, frauds or just full of misinformation. We are working on some new pages for our web site that will inform researchers on what they should be avoiding while searching for their valid lines. Thank you for your assistance. The very best to you all. Harold Oliver Director America's First Families

I am looking for anything on MARY ALEXANDER BARLOW. On 1900 Orlando Census there is Mary BARLOW residing with presumedly her ALEXANDER family. She was 55 yrs, and had birthed 6 children with 3 still living. She was living with her son Clarence ALEXANDER a baker and Frank ALEXANDER a grocery hauler. The family was living on Central Ave. I assume that her maiden name was not Alexander. Probably married an ALEXANDER, was widowed and then married Wilson Barlow, and it looks like they were separated and she moved back with her children. Can someone tell me more? Thanks so much, Judy

Minnie, Thank you for the "Modified Register for (Attorney) Lawson G. McElvey." Lawson was my g-g-grandfather. There are some mistakes in this file and I'll be happy to send the correct info to you if you're interested. As I said in one message to the list, I am looking for descendants and/or info on them regarding, of course, all McElvy/McElvey's and Edward Hunter Woodbery and his wife, Florida Alice McElvy. I see in your list of sources that you've done interviews and have records from this Woodbery family. Would you mind sharing them with me? I'll be happy to pay for copies, postage, etc. Also, do you have any names and addresses that I may contact. Descendants have been very difficult to find and I sure would be grateful for your help. Albert Booth McElvy was my g-grandfather. His parents were Lawson Gamble McElvy and Margaret L. Booth. So he inherited his mother's maiden name. I think John W. Booth was Margaret's father. Let me check my files on this and get back to you later today. I am also researching my Booth line. It appears that you're also interested in my direct lines. I'll be happy to share any info I have with you. Let me know what you need. I am curious as how you fit into these families (McElvy, Woodbery, Booth). My Great Grandparents and four children were on the 1870 Baker Co. Fl. census. My Great Grandfather was shown as a widower in 1880 and three of the children from 1870 were missing and my Grandmother had been born . Below is info on the Yellow Fever Epidemic that I found in the Florida Archives. However, that was after my family members died. Anyone know of something else that might have killed the four of them between 1870-1880? Thanks, Winnette ----------------------------------------------- Yellow Fever raged through much of Florida in the spring of 1888, after the mayor of Tampa announced that the disease was present in his city. Alachua County placed guards at all rail and road entrances to the county, and an officer at the county line had authority to put off the train anyone without a health card or certificate. Nevertheless, Yellow Jack spread, reaching Jacksonville in July, then hitting Fernandina about August. In Fernandina, officials denied yellow fever was present, then called for state help when commerce stopped and looting began. He repeatedly denied yellow fever was in Fernandina, and so the Gainesville Guards were ordered to the stricken city. The guards, singing "We'll Hang the Yellow Jack to a Sour Apple Tree" boarded the Seaboard train for Waldo and Fernandina. Several guards died of yellow fever. Then, in September, yellow fever was declared epidemic in Gainesville. Fear was widespread, and families fled the city before a quarantine was set up and the county line sealed. No one will ever know how many persons died in Gainesville; many were buried in mass graves, and few records were kept. The attached drawing is from a 1930's edition of the Atlanta Journal, in which the story was told of an Alachua County family which fled into Georgia, and their problems in passing across state lines. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
