---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Closing Date Announcement Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library will close for relocation on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 6pm. The department will remain closed through the month of January 2003. This is to allow time to move all our materials to our interim location. The current building will be going through renovation and expansion. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Will materials be available? ----------------------------------------------------------------- All our research materials will be available up until Saturday, December 14 at 6pm. At that time the department will be closed so we can move all our materials to our interim location. When the library opens at that location, we will have all our books, microforms and periodicals ready for research. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Why will we be closed? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Closing the department will allow us to move the whole collection at once instead of doing it piecemeal. This will ensure that the materials you are coming to Fort Wayne to use for your research will be available when you arrive, offering the full collection for our researchers. If we moved pockets of materials, what you needed for your research might not be available. By moving the whole collection at once it will ensure that the materials you are interested in will be available until we close on December 14th, and when we reopen in late January 2003. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Where will the interim location be? ----------------------------------------------------------------- The interim location of the Allen County Public Library will be at 200 East Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. Locally, it is called Renaissance Square. It is 5 blocks to the east from the current library. There will be limited free parking available; there is also a pay parking garage across the street and more than 150 metered spaces in close proximity. --------------------------------------------------------------- What will the interim location be like? --------------------------------------------------------------- One of the most exciting things about our interim location is that the genealogy collection will be a browsing collection. All the materials will be out and available for the researcher to retrieve them. Materials will not have to be paged; the shelves will be open. ---------------------------------------------------------------- How long will we be in the interim location? --------------------------------------------------------------- The projected time frame is 2-3 years. --------------------------------------------------------------- How can I find out more information? --------------------------------------------------------------- Visiting the library web site http://www.acpl.lib.in.us or phoning the department at 260-421-1225 is the best way to get current relocation information. This is a very exciting time for all of us, librarians and researchers alike. Our goal is to keep our patrons informed and continue to offer the highest level of customer service possible now, in our interim location, and in our newly renovated library. For further contact, please phone the department or email Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at [email protected] or Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at [email protected] Please publish and/or pass this information on to all others that might be interested. Thank you! Sincerely, Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department

Hello Everyone: I have added over 2,200 Ancestors to the 1600s Ancestor Data Base with more to come. The total is now over 24,500 and most all are proven Ancestors of descendants living today. I have also added several National Societies who have proven many of these Ancestors. Also for the first time a few respected Reference works that contain thousands of sources. This should be a big help for those of you trying to prove your lines. You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at our new location URL. http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/ This is a free data base open to anyone who is interested in the 1600s and the many ancestors who were here at that time. While there be sure to read the INFORMATION & HELP page so you understand the codes that I have used and how to best use them. Happy hunting and most of all enjoy. Ryan Jackson Data Base Manager
Thanks to all who replied about my request of the lookup for Jackson Roberts of S.E. Al. Turned out he wasn't my GG-Gpa. So I'm still searching. J D Cash
Does anyone have access to the 1860 census of Alabama, probably in the southeast section. I am looking for the family of Jackson Roberts. Wife is Frances and daughters, Lucinda, Arminda, malinda, Amanda, and Mary Frances. New evidence leads to believe they were in Alabama after the census of 1850. In 1850 they were in Lee Co. Ga. By the late 1860s their daughters were in Florida, but no record of the parents have surfaced since 1850. A Jackson Roberts died in Camp Chase Ohio in late 1864 and he was in the cavalry from Alabama. My GG-Gfather was also at Camp Chase and married the second daughter of Jackson Roberts. Searching, searching, always searching. thanks for any help. [email protected]
Many thanks to all who answered my query regarding my man in the kidnap case. Regards Mike Greatorex Harrogate England Looking for All Greatorex's in Blyth/Worksop/Sheffield plus Orange & Ulster Co's,NY, USA Also Florida and Alabama. Associated names Sharman, Beard and Macomber.
I have in my possession a batch of letters of an ancestor of mine. In one of them, her future husband makes reference to being "in the swamp helping on the kidnap case" . The letter was dated January 1938, no full date is given and the post mark is obscured. Does anybody know about this case or where I can find information. I am not sure in what capacity he was helping but he implies he was in the swamps a long time as he had been bitten all over. Apparently he was in business in Miami though what it was I can not tell. In a later letter of the 10 May 1938 he talks about moving the "business" to Homestead. I presume that is in Florida, which is something easy to check. A second question, does anybody know if Trade Directores exist for Miami and Homestead for the years 1938-1939?? Regards from over the Pond.
