I am searching for information on James Leffers and Wife Annie (possible maiden Name) Williams .They are listed in the 1900 Sumter Co. Fl. census @Sumterville next door to A.F. & Hannah Williams.Believed to be her parents. Children of James and Annie are Curtis Eugene, (1891) Travis Clyde (1892) Pauline M (1897 Baby daughter 1899. Due to DNA testing on Williams family we need to make contact with living descendants of this family. Does any one have Sumter Co. Cemetery records that may list where these family members are buried?

Good morning, Thank you to all who responded about information on people from NY who "retired to FL." I did e-mail the newspaper for Broward County ("Sun-Sentinel"), and they responded (sort of). They told me that it was not the correct e-mail for requesting obituaries (was Customer Service office) ??? I did not pursue that further, yet. But, I did find the web site for the Broward County, FL, Library System, and I e-mailed them. They responded and said that, as soon as I mailed them a SASE (slow-mail), and they found the obituaries, they would send me back a Xerox copy of them. I know the Libraries in MA have had "budget crunches" over the past few years, and some of them don't even acknowledge my e-mails. So, as I have time, I usually try to type up a slow-mail letter and mail it to the Library of interest. Just as in the old times, having a .. letter in the hands .. is better than having two .. e-mails in the computer. :o) (This also applies to Town Halls and City Halls in MA and NH (New England, in general).) Enjoy your weekend. Betty (near Lowell, MA)

Bettie Mcmahon Death Date: 9 Dec 1981 County of Death: Broward State of Death: Florida Age at Death: 72 Race: White Gender: Unknown Birth Date: 19 Jan 1909
Hello, I have both a general question and a specific question about obituaries or death notices from the 1980's. If couples or people from, say, Brooklyn, NY, lived their whole lives there, and then "retired to FL," and were living in Florida for possibly less than 10 years, would they have had a full obituary written up on them in a FL newspaper? Or, would just a brief "death notice" been published? To be more specific, the couple my EX referred to as "Uncle Ed" and "Aunt Bettie" were actually his mother's cousin and her husband. Edward and Bettie (?) McMAHON lived most of their lives in Brooklyn, NY, and, as far as I know, never had any children. I believe they "retired to" Pompano Beach, FL, before I divorced, which would have been between 1970 and 1975. The SSDI Listings show Edward McMAHON dying in FL in July 1983, and his wife, Bettie McMAHON dying in FL in December 1981. I have been trying to find out how "Aunt Bettie" was related to my mother-in-law, whose maiden name was Mary McCARTHY. Mary had only one sister, Eleanor McCARTHY, and they lost their mother when they were young girls. I just had the thought within the past few days that an obituary on Mrs. Bettie McMAHON "might" list her maiden name. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. Would I be able to write a letter to the public library in Pompano Beach and request an obituary look-up?
Hi... I am seeking an obituary for Charles E. Johns who died Aug 4, 2000 in Bradford Co, FL....I tried looking at the Bradford County Telegraph but it came up nothing...I figure they have nothing back that far.... Appreciate any help....thank you... Stephanie Grohol
Hi... I am now researching Farley Franklin Johns, the son of James Leigh and Elizabeth Reynolds Johns....(Dec 1881 - Feb 1961 Baker Co, FL)...he married Hattie Rhoden... I was searching the census for them and I discovered something of interest.....they married in 1902 in Baker Co, FL, but when I went searching for them, in 1910...I found that Farley was living in his parents home in Charlton Co, GA, he was married for 8 years, but Hattie was not with him....so I kept searching and found that Hattie was also living with her parents, Hansford and Nancy Rhoden in Baker Co, FL....I thought that was odd...but there may have been reasons....but by 1920 they were together.... I discovered that they had three children that I know about....Claude (1914), Geneva (1916) and Audie (1918)....but I do not know much else about them....would appreciate any help with finding more information on this family....dates, marriages etc.... Thank you.... Stephanie Grohol
Hi... I forgot to mention in my earlier email about Colonial H. Johns and his families...that they lived in Charlton Co, GA, married or lived in Baker Co, FL and may have moved back to Charlton Co, GA....In the census, Colonel and families are living in Charlton Co, GA.... I apologize for forgetting....thank you for any help... Stephanie Grohol

Hi Susan, Do you know anything about the TALLEY in your family? Or the TALLEYs in Bradenton, FL? Or any other TALLEYs in FL Another cousin of mine, James Morton TALLEY, died in Dade City, Pasco Co., FL in 1922. Thanks folks! Now I know where to find Brandenton (previously known as Brandentown), FL. It's in Manatee county. Steve even told me there is a judge named Walter Reed TALLEY living in Bradenton. I don't believe he's the son, Walter R., named in Susan TALLEY's 1958 obituarty. (Her son would be 108 years old now.) But he's probably a descendant. Great! I found a cousin!
