Dicy, widow of Jesse Standley ca. 1790 - ca. 1844 and Thomas J. Prevatt ca. 1803 - 1857, was reported in the 1860 federal census for Ocala, Marion County, Florida, page 10, sheet 262, as Dicey Stanley (sic) head of household of herself, white female, age 56, a domestic, born in Georgia. List members, Darrell asked me to post a message that due to a death in his immediate family he will not be available for the next few days. If you have a problem you may email me, however, I cannot promise to be of much help. I will do what I can. Darrell will probably send a message when he is back and available. Thanks. Linda
Susan and Marie- Thanks to you both for sending the Phone Numbers, but I have tried them all I believe. { will double check those with just an L.} He and his father both were adamant about the single L in their name. What I was hoping is that someone would pass this on to the Sherriff and Police offices and THEY would inform Loyd that I am looking for him., [not of course that they would give me his whereabouts] OR if he has died they could let me know when and where. If he is alive AND well, He will remember me and my 2 older sisters- they still live in Lakeland Fla where our grandmom's big home was. She died in 1960. If he does not want to be found that's OK but I'd really like to know if he's still living. Thanks again for any help StephPowell Cecil [email protected]
Hello I am new to this list--- I'm looking for my first cousin,Loyd Adams Jr, b. abt 1943 in Ocala Fl. I've not seen him since 1961, when his father[my Uncle Loyd] died, but have heard he might have worked for the Marion County Sherriff or the Ocala or Belleview Police Dept. Anyone have any ideas where I might look for him? He is not in the SSDI although I think his older sister is. I have some information for him which might be good news, and also I am trying to reconnect with my few remaining cousins. If He was in law enforcement and has retired the Offices would be able to send him a message for me Right? I can't reach them on the internet for some reason. Thanks for any help you can give. Steph Powell Cecil [email protected] [also a grandaughter of Mary Rebecca Adams of Lakeland, Fl.]

Nicole-- My great-grandfather homesteaded many acres of land in Marion County--his name was John W. Barnes, b.~1830; married to Louisa ?. He owned land there in 1840, then moved to Coffee/Baldwin Cos., AL around 1858-1860, then came back to Marion Co. in 1861 before moving to Hillsborough Co. around 1870. They had 11 children that I have been able to document: William W., Nancy M., James Lawrence (my grandfather), George W., Armindes, M. Angeline, John L., Mary Francis, Louisa and Laura (twins) and Daniel Emanual. Let me know if you think we have any one in common and I can share more info. Cindi Wright [email protected]

Emanuel Henry Martin , my ggggrandfather came to the area near Fort McCoy in around 1827 and had his baby killed by a Seminole arrow, him and his wife Mary Geiger Martin went back home to Bryan County, Ga. They came back in around 1832 and settled near a place called Pine back then, before it was Marion County. He went on to be a Road Commissioner and I believe a County Commissioner before he died in around 1852. My grandfather married Mary Jane McDermitt who was born in Summerfield around 1895. Her mother Mary Jane Shaw died shortly after giving birth. Frank McDermitt was the father and later remarried and had three children, one who took over the farm in Summerfield until he died in the 1970's. His family still live on a what is left of the old farm. I am out of time. Rick Bullock, Sarasota, Fl --------------E9A9E249418663167BE3149E--

I am posting this to warn others about problems with ; Census Microfilm Expeditors 476 E. South Temple , Suite 4 Salt Lake City , UT 84111 website ; www.censusmicrofilm.com e-mail ; [email protected] and ; [email protected] I was lured to order several microfilm copies from this company with "guarantees" of "speedy delivery" and "low price" . My order was placed in October of 1998 and as of this posting I have not received the order or a refund after numerous contacts with Steven Jensen at this firm . In his occasional replies he repeatedly gave false information to me as to the status of the order and cashed the check when mentioned stopping payment on it .I have copies of all documents and correspondences for those interested . Complaints have been filed with the Better Business Bureau and the United States Postal Inspectors , they have informed me that even they can't order this company to give a refund , but may seek criminal charges . I guess small claims court is next . If you are seeking genealogy resources......consider my experiences with this "Firm". Thank you , Kenneth Sartin researching ; Sartin , Sartain , Sarton , Sarten , Sardin etc. etc.
I am interested in learning about a forest fire that occurred in Marion County, probably near Belleville, in 1917, probably on March 16 or 17. A relative of mine named James B. Hockney died on March 20 of burns caused by the fire. Would there be newspaper accounts of the fire or an obituary for James B. Hockney?
Listmembers, I am new to the list. My great grandparents, Henry and Maud Luella Wey OYER moved to Citra about 1885. They had purchased land there in 1884. He was the justice of the peace and the postmaster--I do not know how long or when. They had 3 children living at this time, Tracie, Herbert Maurice and Maud. They are listed in the 1900 Citra Marion Fla Census By 1910 they had moved and are listed in the St. Lucie Florida Census. I would appreciate hearing from anyone about Citra in those years. Is there are history of this area? Maud's parents, William H and Permelia A. WEY died in 1885/6 and are buried in the Citra Cemetery. Is there someone who could take a picture of the graves for me? I would gladly pay the going rate. Thanks in advance for any information about CITRA or the OYERs. Sheila from Alaska [email protected]
Does anyone on this list know which Railroads would have run in the 1890's near Early Bird, FL? I'm trying to find out which railroad my gr grandfather was possibly working on at that time. 1892 or so. Thanks, Gayle :)
My great great grandfather, James Sylvester Hampton, and his wife Sophronia Barnum Drake Hampton, moved from Kane Co., IL, to Leroy, Marion Co., FL, about 1892. They lived there until his death Nov. 1, 1894. I am looking for his place of burial. Does anyone on the list have any ideas? I know that Leroy has not existed for many years.
My cousin obtained the death certificate of James B. Hockney who died March 20, 1917 of "severe and extensive burns from waist down caught from forest fire." Is there a source in Marion County, such as the historical society or library, which might have access to a newspaper account of this fire or an obituary for James Hockney? James Hockney was probably living with his daughter and son-in-law Watson and Lydia Carr. We do not know when they moved to Florida (although it was after 1910) or why. They had lived previously in Wisconsin after immigrating from England about 1890.
