James Bellamy was in the Navy and died I believed in 1944 just after Joyce was born from pnuemonia, with an honorable discharge. I do know that it is said he had a sister, but do not know her name, and his father was Clifford Bellamy of Deland, Florida. Catherine moved her mother, Mattie Lee Bunyon and her young daughter Joyce to New York City after James died. Does any of this sound familiar to you? If so, we need to compare notes. I do not have much info about my maternal grandfather whatso ever...Thank you and I hope this is helpful. Have a wonderful day. 1. [FLMARION] Midwest research material-place names, cemeteries and more
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: r_a_green Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.florida.counties.marion/1170/mb.ashx Message Board Post: 19th CENTURY ATLAS, MAPS, HISTORICAL GUIDES & GAZETTEERS (includes publications from IA, IN, MN, OH and WI) http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/hgg.html Historians, genealogists and researchers of the 19th century Midwestern United States will find the vast amount of historical research material in these books and atlases on CD a very valuable resource. Each of these extensive gazeteer and immigrant guides contain the description of places and place names, many of which are no longer found on contemporary maps, including: cities, towns, villages, settlements, schools, post offices, transportation routes and schedules, and much more. Historical Guides and Gazetteer CD's may also include maps of the period providing cartographic reference to 19th century places identified and discussed in the literature. Also included are hundreds of advertisements by contributing businesses providing historical insight into the goods, services and the merchants that made them available during the 19th century. Anyone interested in the history of these regions will find this material useful. ------------------------------------------------------------ HISTORIC ATLAS SERIES (includes 19th century atlases of IA, IL, IN, KY, KS, MI, MN, NE, OH, PA, VA and WI) http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/has.html The Historic Atlas Series CD's are digital reproductions of 19th century maps and historical atlas data in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). The Adobe Reader software is required to view, manipulate and print PDF data is included on each CD. States with maps and atlases currently available are shown in the graphic to the right. 19th century geographic and statistical data are useful to historians, genealogists and researchers with an interest in the landscape and cultural setting of this period. Early county maps may contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time. Atlases with statistical data provide vivid detail of 19th century pioneer lifestyles. Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected and printed at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. There is a vast amount of information that can be gleaned from these sources and the diligent researcher will find these cartographic resources useful in their studies. ------------------------------------------------------------ Good luck with your research! 1. Re: [FLMARION] William B Pyles / Piles marriage verification needed for Marion County, Florida bef 1860, please.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: CharlesPyles1836 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.florida.counties.marion/1093.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You will find much more on Wm. B Pyles ancestry by looking back to Alachua Co., FL's Ancient Records (online) and to Glynn Co., GA's early records transcribed by Judge Folks Huxford. Wm. B. Pyles was the son of William Piles/Pyles who came from Glynn Co., GA in the mid to late 1820s, settling in Alachua Co. with his brothers (Samuel and James). Wm. and James received AOA land permits to settle in what became Marion Co. c1842. Their AOA land permits (available online through FL DEP/DNR records) indicate the date they came to Florida and the approximate location of their 160 acres of land. The GLO/BLM records (online) show date proved and patented c1847. The 3 Piles/Pyles brothers and 2 others (John and Robert S.) were the sons of John Piles and Mary (believed to be Mangum or Mangham) of Glynn Co., GA. John died c1803 and Mary c1850. Transcribed records by Judge Huxford and original deed records verify their family beyond 1850. Some research indicates that Mary and John Piles were possibly married in St. Augustine, East Florida in the late 1780s during the English Period or as the 2nd Spanish Period (1785-1819) was taking place and John was leaving for GA. John's father, Samuel Piles was deceased by 1785 and his mother, Sara (?) was shown as a widow on the Spanish Census of 1785. The first Samuel Piles came to Florida from GA in 1762, living on Hypolita St. and later across from the Treasury House at the corner of St. George St. and Treasury. Anyone have any records that would prove the Piles/Pyles came from England, possibly with Oglethorpe? Charles Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
