may not be relevant but my grandmother on my fathers side was a Mercer - Jane Proctor Mercer born in Ireland 1861 and married Joseph Leggett -I think in New Zealand about 1890 and died in NZ August 1946 with a family of 2 girls and 2 boys. Best of luck
