I imagine it was a general store in the 1940's that also served as a post office. This was used as a C/O address for my grandmother in the 40's. Any history would be appreciated, location, owners, etc., as I am trying to trace my grandmother's relatives that may have lived in the area during this period. Thanks for any help.

Posted on: Lee Co. Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Lee/10259 Surname: Mercer, Leggett ------------------------- Hi Brenda, Wow, what a break this could be:o) I could only hope that your mother might have known or remember them. My g-grandparents were George and Eula Leggett. Eula's maiden name was MERCER. I am only able to trace their residence from the birth of each child. Their first child..Ernest R. Leggett was born in NICHOLS, FL on October 14, 1910. Their second child..Ruwis Glen Leggett "Rudy" (my grandfather) was born in PLACIDA, FL on June 19, 1913. Their third child..Evelyn Eula Leggett was born in BOCA GRANDE, FL on January 7, 1916. The birth of this third child took a very tragic turn however. Due to complications in child birth, Eula (the mother) died in BOCA GRANDE, FL on February 2, 1916. If your mother does by chance recall this tragedy, please ask her whether she remembers this third child born to be GIRL or BOY. Another real family mystery. Florida birth records show a baby BOY born to Mrs. Geo H. Leggett on January 7, 1916. This could simply be a clerical error; however, Evelyn Eula (the third child) has never been able to verify her birth in FL. Eula's death certificate states that she was buried in MULBERRY, FL (Polk County) with no specific cemetery noted. I am desparately trying to discover her family..the MERCERs. I have no information on her parents, their names, where they lived. Her death certificate notes her birthplace as FL.. no city given. I could only guess that family may have lived in Mulberry, FL; considering the choice to bury her there. I do also have the names and photos of Eula's 2 brothers and 2 sisters.... Wesley Mercer Lewis Mercer Ida Mercer Lela Mercer It only appears that George & Eula lived in BOCA GRANDE, FL for a very short perid of time... maybe 3 years...between 1913(birth of 2nd child) and 1916(death of Eula). However, I do have a photo of George Leggett as a young man with his two brothers...Jim and Cleveland along with some other Leggett cousins taken in BOCA GRANDE, FL. George's parents names were Columbus Charles Leggett and Henrietta Angeline Leggett, her maiden name being Smith. Columbus, Henrietta and their children were all born in GA; however, from what I understand many moved to FL for jobs. I would be so appreciative if you would ask your mother if she remembers any LEGGETT's or MERCER's having lived in Boca Grande, FL or if she recalls having heard of the tragic event I mentioned above. Being such a small island I would imagine news to spread and hope she might recall. Thank you for writing and I look forward to hearing from you. Jeannie:o) JIMason6965@cs.com

Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Lee/10257 Surname: Padilla, Aguilar, Darna, Woodring ------------------------- My grandmother always told me that her grandmother, Rosa Padilla, was the daughter of Torivo Padilla and Juanita Perez. If this is true, Torivo and Juanita must have had two daughters named Rosa. My Rosa married Jose Aguilar and they only had two girls, Delores and Aurora. Rosa died in June 1885 on Cayo Costa. Does anyone know anything of this Rosa? She is my g-g-grandmother. Brenda

Both my parents grew up there and graduated from Boca Grande High School. My mother remembers almost everybody from the island and then some. Of course, most of them she was related to. Brenda
Posted on: Lee Co. Fl Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Fl/Lee/10255 Surname: Darna, Padilla, Woodring ------------------------- Yes there is a mention of Ronald Fraser. It says he was the publisher of the "Boca Beacon". That is the only Fraser and the only time mentioned. There is, however, an Elmer Johnson who is one of the "Fisherfolk" interviewed for the book. He is the son of John Frank "Hub" Johnson and the grandson of Frank Johnson and Mary White "Molly" Whitten. There are several Johnsons who graduated from Boca Grande High School throughout the years. If this looks any good to you, let me know.

My grandfather was Jake Darna, her son by Jake Darna. I would be interested in trading info. I have some info on Nona Toledo who married Walter Coleman. I realize your message is almost a year old, but I have the book "Fisherfolk". Two branches of my family sort of stem from the same branch. On Cayo Costa everybody was related. There is a picture of my grandmother Laura Woodring and my great grandfather Samuel Woodring listed as a boarder. My mother was born on Cayo Costa in 1937. If you're interested, let me know. Brenda
