    3. My granny said the white wash was made of a lime mixture; it discouraged insects and bugs -- to keep them from the fruit in the (pecan) trees. Lime is also a kind of fertilizer so it didn't hurt the trunks, and did make the area look cleaner and 'prettier' (?) .
