Hello, I grew up in Parramore, which we affectionately called the "suburbs of Two Egg." The town was named after a local family that ran one of the stores there. At its height, it was a pretty prosperous community. There were several stores, two churches, a sawmill, gristmill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop and post office as well as several major naval stores operations. The community was served by two landings on the Chattahoochee River. Although it is a "ghost town," it remains a fairly active little community. There are probably 20 or 25 families living in the immediate area. Circle Hill Baptist Church is still active and the cemetery there contains the graves of many early settlers of the community. Belleview and Oak Grove Churches are no longer used on a regular basis, but still stand. Both also have cemeteries containing the graves of many area pioneers. Oak Grove is the setting for an annual reunion at which the history of the community is remembered. In addition to the Parramores, the community was populated by members of the Lawson, Cloud, Cox, Hewett, Brogdon, Owens and other families. Jackson County's oldest standing school structure, the old Cox school, still stands in Parramore. This one room school house dates from the 19th century and predated Central School, the ruins of which can still be seen. Best, Dale Cox
The best part about Parramore was all that Army surplus stuff he had out there by U.S. 90. Looking back on it now, it was probably all just a bunch of junk; but when we were kids, it was every pre-adolescent boy's dream! I haven't been by there in long time; I wonder if any of it is still there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 18, 2002 9:28 PM Subject: [FLJACKSO] Parramore > Hello, > > I grew up in Parramore, which we affectionately called the "suburbs of Two > Egg." > > The town was named after a local family that ran one of the stores there. > At its height, it was a pretty prosperous community.
