Avery, Marianna has had at least one paper for many years. Prior to the Floridan, there was the Times Courier. In the 19th Century there were a number of papers, including the West Florida News, the Patriot, Barlow's Whig and others. Some of these are very rare today. For example, I have the only known copy of the West Florida News. That said, many copies of early Jackson County papers can still be found. The Special Collections Section of the John C. Pace Library at the University of West Florida preserves many old Northwest Florida newspapers, as does the Florida Historical Society Library in Gainesville. Best, Dale Cox
