Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately)... the USGenWeb project is voluneer only, meaning we are not allowed to have advertisements, except those that may appear on rootsweb (the free server we use). I imagine the reasoning, along with items you shared, might be to prevent the web sites from becoming cluttered with advertisements along with someone (an individual or group) profiting. Monies from advertising would have to be reported and tax records kept, requiring the individual (group) to formally organize with a tax identification number, and so on. So, to keep it simple you won't find a lot of advertisements or such on the web site or on the discussion list. Our group members might ask or mention some things which are usually very limited. My response on the places to stay was unbiased and I tried very hard when I created the "Places to Stay" web page for the page to be simple and factual. I personally have stayed in a few places in Jackson County but left my own opinions and experiences to myself.
