Hi Don, Is she asking for the correct spelling of Lewis? or Louis? I think I would try Lewis since there is a family member in Ephesus with same name. Also try L initial as well as M initial or try Melton as a first name. Did her grandfather actually die in Ala? Was he "pronounced" in another state? Most obvious places to look would be states adjoining Al. Did he go by Lou, Lew or Mel or Melton? There is a notation on a family tree that he went by the name of MELT. His civil war records do show the following: Louis Melton Avery, served in 11th Fla Infantry, Alligance to the Confederate States. He enlisted as a priv. and that was his rank upon discharge. I realise it shows the spelling of Louis instead of Lewis. But in Ephesus Cem there is another family member with same name.. using the spellling Lewis.. might make a difference. Next: Contact Bobbie Tate at: [email protected] This person has a tree online with Cherie's Grandfather on it, and 52 other Avery's as well. Yes, he is buried at Ephesus in Campbellton, Jackson Co. Fl. I didn't see him in a quick search of Fla Death Index. That can be checked at Ancestry.com, Rootsweb.com or MyFamily.com.
