Randy, Thank you! I believe the George W. Ball of the Battle of Marianna (and Natural Bridge) was a different individual than the one who jumped ship at Pensacola in 1863. The one who fought at Marianna was born in Jackson County on May 1, 1848, and was a teenager at the time of the battle. He served in Captain A.R. Godwin's Campbellton Cavalry unit before enlisting in the regular service in October of 1864. He is buried at Marvin Chapel Cemetery in Jackson County. It is interesting that both have the same name. Is it possible they were related? Dale "Randy Scott" <rscott@fdn.com> wrote: >Again! Congrats on being published! A Reb and a Yankee related?!?!?! God forbid! ha ha.Of course my late Dad married a Yankee gal from Rhode Island during WW 2 and I was born In RI in '45 and he moved us back to the sunny climes of collards and cat fish by that years' end. Guess I'm a half breed! At any rate, being half Cracker and half-Italian I'm the only guy I know raised on spaghetti and grits!! Thanks for clearing that GW Ball business up for me.
