RE: 1935-1945-1955 State Census There is a 1935 and 1945 state census for Florida but I don't know if it includes all counties but they are available on microfilm at the state archives. I bought copies on microfilm from the State Archives in Tallahassee for Jackson County so I know they have them. I must tell you that the quality leaves much to the imagination especially the 1935 which is white on black. As far as the 1955 I do not know but sure would like to know when you find out. Perhaps someone in the Secretary of State's office could at least answer if one was taken then for the follow-up question to find out who has custody of the record. I would guess it is at the State Archives but it may not be microfilmed and therefore they would be most reluctant to allow access to the average tax payer. Keep us posted. R. Watson
Hello about ten years or so ago I viewed the '35 and '45 Fla census at the main library genealogy room here in Jacksonville. I got a special kick out of it as I got to see my father, Earl Scott, in a census, for the second time. Born in 1923, to Charles H and Lilla Bazzell Scott, the 1930 census wasn't out yet. He and his parents had moved to Jax, from Jackson County in 1938. The census showed my dad, his older brother Charles and sister Ruby all living there at that home in Jax. His other sister, LaRena was living here with her husband. All well and good EXCEPT when that census was taken Dad was still in the South Pacific in the Navy and The War and so was his brother! Ruby was living with her husband, Edwin Clark , and their children in Greensboro, Gadsden County, where they had lived since marriage in 1929! I don't know if the census taker asked for all my grandparent's children's names and listed them or what. Confusion reigns! Another instance where we must be careful with any census records. A side note to Cousin Rhonda, I received, from the Nat'l Archives, there is no record on Benjamin M. Burns, first husband of my g grandmother, Nancy Dykes Burns Scott.. Ben died in Confederate service and served from Alabama, 37th Ala Inf. I am still waiting on any records about Powell Coonrod. Will let you know right away. Randy PS Since I'm piggy-backing here, a note to all Jackson Co. researchers: I am close to completion on writing my Scott family history from about 1770. I would like to hear from inter-related J/Co families with my Scott's. I have a lot of data up to abt 1930, little after, on the marriage connections and descendants of Sarah Scott / Ferdinand Weeks; Mary Scott/Joesph Cox, Rhoda Ann Scott / Reuben Conner/Lloyd Wilbur/Daniel Cloud.; Brogdon - Key families and connections to Nancy Dykes Burns Scott, daughter of Henry Dikes/Dykes, Early Co.,Ga 1840's50's then J/Co Ben Burns family, do you know where, when, and how he died in that War? and one else descended from my G G Garndfather, James Franklin Scott, and his son, my G Grandfather, Sam Scott. Thank you!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.
