Greetings, Just a note to let everyone know about a new resource coming to our area. Troy State University-Dothan is establishing a new facility called The Archives of Wiregrass History & Culture. Located on the Dothan campus, the facility will focus on the collection and preservation of historical records and papers dealing with the area roughly bordered by Tallahassee on the east, Pensacola on the west, the Gulf on the south and Albany, Columbus and Montgomery to the north. Dr. Marty Olliff and other members of his staff have launched a major initiative to collect records and documents relating to the following areas: community leaders and citizens, Wiregrass area artists and authors, impact of the military on the region, folkways and high culter, economic life, government and politics and non-governmental civic life. I am not sure of a targeted opening date for the facility, but once open it should be a tremendous resource for those researching local history and family connections. The building is complete and the process of assembling information is underway now. I have agreed to donate my personal research papers and collections to the new archives, as have a number of other writers who pursue historical studies on the Northwest Florida, Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia area. Best, Dale Cox
