    1. [FLJACKSO] Annual Homecoming at Old Parramore
    2. The annual Homecoming at Old Parramore will take place this Sunday (October 7th) at Oak Grove Church in Parramore. The church is near the intersection of Oak Grove and Parramore Roads. This is a very unique event that has been going on for nearly half a century now. Residents and former residents of the Jackson County "ghost town" of Parramore gather each year to share stories and and remember the history of the community. There are brief services, music, dinner on the grounds, etc., beginning at around 10 a.m. and continuing until everyone gets tired and goes home. Parramore was never an incorporated town, but during the late 19th and early 20th centuries it was a significant community with five stores, a post office, cotton gin, sawmill, gristmill and blacksmith shop served by several riverboat landings on the nearby Chattahoochee River. The area was a center for the turpentine industry and Peri Landing (pronounced "Pea-Rye") was a major shipping point for barrels of rosin. According to a 1919 list of riverboat landings on the Chattahoochee and Apalachicola Rivers, it was one of only a handful of landings identified as warehouse landings. Today, very little remains of the old community. Oak Grove Church is used only for the annual reunion and occasional funerals. If you are related to the Parramore, Cox, Green, Tipton, Lawson, Cloud, Neel, Neal, Owens, Hewett, Brogden or any of the other families with connections to that area, however, it is an excellent chance to meet relatives and share family history information. The public is invited. Best, Dale Cox www.exploresouthernhistory.com www.battleofmarianna.net www.twoeggfla.net
