As you can tell, this has been a busy year for me. My third new book, "The Battle of Natural Bridge, Florida," is now available. This book is a companion volume to "The Battle of Marianna, Florida," which was released earlier this year. It includes a detailed history of the March 1865 battle that preserved Tallahassee's status as the only Southern capital east of the Mississippi River not conquered by Union troops during the War Between the States. The book provides the first ever listing of every known participant of the Battle of Natural Bridge and significantly expands casualty lists and other information on the battle. The book is available in paperback for $19.95 (plus shipping and handling). If you are interested, or just want to learn more about the battle, you can visit my Battle of Natural Bridge website at http://www.exploresouthernhistory.com/nbindex. I? just finished reading "The Battle of Marianna". It articulated a difficult and sad series of events in our history?in a manner that?enabled me to envision these?trying circustances that our forefathers and mothers faced. I cannot fathom the long term misery and bitterness created by this unnecessary and brutal agression. Chapter 4 of Judge Andrew Napolitano's book? "The Constitution?in Exile" describes this war in?a constitutional context. He concludes that it was unnecessay and illegal.? The pages are filled with surnames?appearing in my family tree which makes it?that much more?real for me. Despite the hostilities, the book was warmly welcomed and well enjoyed. Even the mention of Frederick Olmstead meant something to me, as I have enjoyed many times walking through Lake Olmstead Park, which he designed in Augusta, Georgia. I am greatful that Dale has preserve this chapter for all of us as well as future generations. I strongly recommend this book, especially to my fellow NW Florida brothers and sisters.? My sincerest gratitude Greg Tipton??? -----Original Message----- From: DNDothan@cs.com To: fljackso@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 1 Aug 2007 1:42 am Subject: [FLJACKSO] The Battle of Natural Bridge, Florida As you can tell, this has been a busy year for me. Dale: Are your books available at the Historical Society or the Chamber of Commerce in Marianna? If not, can I pick them up anywhere else, or are you just taking mail orders? The reason I ask is that I'm driving over to Chipley on Friday and thought I could stop off and get one as I'm driving thru Marianna. Thanks, Myrt Mayne, Tallahassee ----- Original Message ----- From: <DNDothan@cs.com> To: <fljackso@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2007 1:42 AM Subject: [FLJACKSO] The Battle of Natural Bridge, Florida > As you can tell, this has been a busy year for me.
