The Dothan Eagle is on Ancestry.com for dates starting in 1908 - doesn't help your 1906 needs, but if some of your other dates are later, you might find them there. Do you subscribe to Ancestry.com? They have copies of the Dothan Eagle online but I'm not sure what years they start. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Many years ago I went to the Dothan Eagle office and researched, locating some of their older issues on microfilm. A few months ago, the new staff informed me that there were no issues available at that location. Specifically looking for 1906, especially March 15 or 16. There are several other dates. Thanks so much, Cindy ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who came out for the Battle of Marianna presentation last night. I enjoyed seeing so many of you again and meeting some new friends as well. Hopefully you enjoyed it too. There will be another Battle of Marianna related event on Saturday morning (22nd) at 9 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Marianna. The SCV will dedicate a new memorial to the soldiers buried there. For those who are interested, copies of the Battle of Marianna, Two Egg and Battle of Natural Bridge books are now available at Chipola River Book and Tea at 4402 Lafayette Street in Marianna. Best, Dale Cox www.battleofmarianna.net www.exploresouthernhistory.com
For anyone with interest, I will be speaking tomorrow (Monday) night in Jackson County on the Battle of Marianna. The presentation will be at the meeting of the Theophilus West Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, but the public is invited to attend. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge on Jefferson Street (just out Caverns Road past Kelson if you are coming from downtown Marianna). I hope to see some of you there. Cindy, Thanks - I have checked that and the cemetery I am interested in "Yarbrough" has not been surveyed. I believe it to be situated about 1/3 down on the west shore of Lake Seminole next to Grid 19. This was the area where property was owned by William Yarbrough from 1846-1870. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/3010/jack-map.htm Thanks anyhow, Jim Yarbrough ----- Original Message ----- From: <SeaGee69@aol.com> To: <fljackso@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 09, 2007 12:16 PM Subject: Re: [FLJACKSO] Davis Hall > > Jim, and others on the list > > To my knowledge, our web site has the greatest collection of cemetery > transcriptions available on Jackson County, including several surrounding > counties. > Go to the web site: _http://www.rootsweb.com/~fljackso_ > (http://www.rootsweb.com/~fljackso) , click on the CEMETERIES link (on > the left side of the main > page). Has anyone ever heard of "Davis Hall"? It was present in Marianna circa 1906 and served as the venue for court during that time while building a new courthouse. What was the location? Thanks, Cindy ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
