Subj: Re: Jackson, Gadsden and Liberty Counties Date: 10/15/98 2:41:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: RSzasz9858 To: BettyMaeS Betty, Is there any way possible I can get some type of militay records from Jackson County? I'm trying to find a LEWIS NAPOLEAN MARTIN. He was supposedly to have served in WWI. I have no info as to what branch he may have served in or even he served overseas and if he did, can I find out if he was killed in action. The remainder of family had later moved to West Virginia. Also can you find out for me if there is a Lewis County, FL. In a family bible find a reference to these two counties but nothing else. Can you please help or at least give me some addresses to where I can look. Thanks a million. Rszasz9858@aol.com

The direct lines I'm researching are: DAFFIN CLARKE ELY DRUMMOND TILLINGHAST ROULHAC These families intermarried with a number of other families in Jackson Co. The Daffins, for example are related to: ALDERMAN JUSTICE DYKES RUSS BOOTHE SIMMONS HIGHTOWER PITTMAN and others. My info on these is not as extensive as the direct lines, but I do have a bit on these lines as well. I'd be happy to share any info I have.

Hello, I need any information about William BOROUM and his family. He came with his family to Jackson Co., FL about 1855 from Lincoln Co., GA. He purchased land on the eastern side of Jackson County, midway between its northern and southern boundaries. There is a presently a "Boram" Lake near where I think William and his family once lived. William was a Baptist Minister and farmer. I think that William died about 1875 and may be buried in Greenwood, FL. After his death, William's widow, Asenath, and family moved from Jackson Co. to Decatur Co., GA. I would appreciate any information about this family or the names of any Jackson Co., FL source material where I may find information about this family. Variants for the sirname BOROUM:BORUM, BORRUM, BORROUM, BORAM and others. Norwood Cooper E-mail address: ncooper@gvtc.com Web site: http://gvtc.com/~ncooper/ Rootsweb Sponser: ECHOLS list
Hi All, Im Rhonda Watson of Martinez, GA, just outside of Augusta. My mothers families are from Jackson County - Surnames as follows: Paternal: Stephens, Rogers, Helms, & Hurston Maternal: Ditty, McNeal/McNeil/McNeill, Coonrod/Conrad, Baxter, Futch Other families Im interested in - Anderson, Brooks, Ferguson, Gladden, Hart, Hasty, Hatcher, Johnson, Mathews, Oswald, Pittman, Robinson, Simmons, Strickland, Talley, Tidwell, Wadford, Whitfield - to name a few. It wasnt until I started collecting information on the collateral lines that the pieces of a very complex puzzle began to take shape. Ive a topic for discussion concerning Jackson Co, FL. Im interested in the migrations of the residents who settled there - particularly my grandmothers ancestors - but Ive learned that you can learn alot about your own ancestors by studing the neighbors as well. In the case of Jackson & Henry Co (now Houston Co.), its truly fascinating to me to study the relationships of the people and to find that those relationships existed in the families two or more generations prior in another place. Please submit any families, any time period settling to areas covered by this discussion list only. I think we will see some interesting family relationships & migration patterns developing. Please submit in the following format - I would like to create a database for future use. If everyone uses the same format it will be much easier to create. Surname, Given: State, County From: Date Arrived: State, County Settled: Notes: I am particularly interested in those families who migrated from Chester, Fairfield, & York Counties in South Carolina about 1845 - 1847. Part of the reason for the mass migration from these counties was a severe drought in 1845. Chester Co. had no rain from the last week of March to the first week of July that year. That was devastating to that farming community. The people and their animals were starving there. Another reason was that Florida had just been made a state in 1845. I would like to know how many families can be identified as coming from these counties and the year they came and the route they traveled and reasons for coming. Surname, Given: COONROD, John (1825-1912) State, County From: SC, Chester Date Arrived: Btw 1845-1850 with mother (not sure father with them) State, County Settled: FL, Jackson Notes: 1840: Census - SC, Chester Co. (w/ parents) 1845: Brother born SC 1850: Census - FL, Jackson Co. (w/ mother) 1860: Census - AL, Henry Co. (head of household) 1870: Census Missing 1880, 1885, 1900, 1910: Census - FL, Jackson Co. Son of Joseph Coonrod and his wife Hester (maiden?) Husband of 1) Elizabeth Ann Baxter Surname, Given: DITTY, James Isaac (1844-1926) State, County From: SC, York via GA, Lee Date Arrived: Btw 1860 - 1867 with mother (not sure father with them) State County Settled: FL, Jackson Notes: 1850: Census - SC, York Co. (w/ parents) 1854: Brother b. GA 1860: Census - GA, Lee Co. (w/ parents) 1867: Married - FL, Jackson Co. 1870: Census Missing 1880, 1885, 1900, 1910, 1920: Census - FL, Jackson Co. Here are the names I'm researching in Jackson Co. CLOUD BROGDEN MOODY DUDLEY NORMAN Melnie
1885 census is almost finished. Peggy Riley wanted someone to check the 13th dist as this is the one that none of it comes out on the film. Looks like she did a good job on it. Patty is going over and checking to see if she can read any more of the names. Lot of " marks in the color column, sure is strange that 95% are listed as B. Work has slowed down here for a while, as most of you know my grandson had major heart surgery 22 days ago. Gage Hart is 19 months old and still in CSU at St Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. They need to replace a wire for his pace maker as the one they put in is bad. The hold up on this is a yest infection that appeared on his neck that was believed to be a heat rash, so will be a few more days before they can go back in a replace the wire. Then Friday night my other grandson was in a traffic accident, Justin is 15 and he was in the back of a pickup truck with a topper on it and another truck hit them. Justin has a broken leg and some cuts on his face and he lost a tooth. Justin is the brother of Gage Hart. Justin is my genealogy buddy and he helped me survey Springhill Cem. Justin will be coming home today from Tampa General Hospital in Tampa. Just keep those prayers coming and Thanks to all of you for them. Betty

I am trying to find information on Tom Allan who lived in the Allanton area in the early 1900's. I have found out that although Allanton is now in Bay County it was previously part of Calhoun and Washington counties, which were also split into from Gulf and Liberty counties. In the tract book, I have found some Allen families, and they are in the same dates, but different spellings, but in all of the counties I've encountered the same spellings. So maybe my spelling is wrong. What I would like to find out is information on Thomas C. Allen I found in the marriages, who married a Annie Bass on 9/9/1918. If this iTom Allan has a brother named Charles, or just more information about Tom and Annie, and if they had any children. Thanks. --part0_908278975_boundary--
