    1. Epidemics
    2. Jimmie Brock
    3. There was a Flu epidemic in northwest Florida in the 1890's. My grandmother lived in Santa Rosa Co. and almost all of her family was wiped out with the flu in 1892-93 leaving her an orphan. Many families in Santa Rosa Co. lost family members during this epidemic. I'm sure it probably spread to surrounding counties. Jim Brock

    1. Washington Co., Florida -Cause of 1879 Deaths
    2. Mary Jane Pattillo
    3. Hi All: Does anyone know if there was an epidemic or something of that nature in Washington Co. that would have caused both a mother and father of a family to died suddenly, leaving three children orphans? I'm guessing that they died about 1879. I cannot find them on the mortality index cd 1850-1880. One of their daughters is found in the 1880 census of Walton County as a ward of the family she is living with. The oldest daughter is also living as a servant in the household of D.N. Horn of Washington Co. in 1880. The last and youngest child was born about 1874. I cannot find him until 1900, listed as adopted and living in Walton Co. This McDERMIT and WORTHINGTON family were living in the Vernon District of Washington Co. in the 1870 census. Any possible clues would be appreciated. Thanks. Mary Jane Pattillo

    1. Re: Epidemics in the Jackson CO FL area
    2. Yes, it was the Spanish Influenza that wiped out entire families across the nation and the world in 1918-1919. It is interesting to note these dates as you walk through cemeteries and see the frequency of deaths occurring in these years. From what I have heard, the epidemic started in Europe and the boys from WWI brought it home to the states.

    1. Epidemics in the Jackson CO FL area
    2. The list below by Anne Futch leaves out Jackson Co FL. James Reeves told me about people in Jackson Co FL dying like flies and if they thought someone was not going to live they left them at home to die. This one (boy?) begged so hard to be taken in the wagon and he told them that he was going to live, so they took him and he did live. .......was this the 1918 flu that killed so many people around the world? How many times in Jackson Co FL and when did these Epidemics happen? Thanks for any information.......Betty ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anne Futch "In case you ever wondered why a large number of your ancestors disappeared during a certain period in history, this might help. Epidemics have always had a great influence on people - and thus influencing, as well, the genealogists trying to trace them. It is on my site. I will do the same for Gadsden Co. soon. Last weekend, Gail and I went to the FSU game and spent the night in Marianna. Rather than driving straight home the next day, we toured some of the areas that I have been researching. We visited Ocheesee and Ocheesee Ferry landing, Chattahoochee, Torreya State Park, and Fort Gadsden. I was very surprised at how big the State Hospital is at Chattahoochee. Are you still interested in having a map drawn of the cemetery? Are you thinking of a map of the grave sites? Do you have that kind of information? I would be interested in trying to draw it if you do. Duke Vickrey --part0_910355891_boundary--

John Padgett was married to his first wife Penny Jones and supposedly a sister of Jonathan Jones Jr and the daughter of Jonathan Jones Sr. Another Jones daughter married a McQuagge and their sons...Daniel and Duncan McQuagge married two of the above mentioned daughters of Nancy Gay Haynes Padgett...Sarah and Mary Caroline Haynes. Hopefully someone can help me with these lines as I have hit a deadend in all of them as I cannot trace any back further than their arrival to Jackson Co. I look forward to hearing from you.
