    1. Re: Tombstone Search
    2. I found in the WPA (Works Progress Administration): COOK William Hardy 1826 1892 Civil War, Pvt - Co F 6th Fla Regt Inf He is in cemetery 133, Cook and Beauchamp Cemetery - located in Section 3, Township 3N, Range 9W. I've not been able to locate this cemetery. Perhaps someone might know its location? I didn't find James COOK; but I did see John W. COOK and Thomas COOK. I also checked a survey of 130 or so cemeteries done circa 1960 and did no locate a listing for a James COOK. Very few headstones of the 19th century are still around and legible, unfortunately. Hope this helps. 1. Higginbotham Surname
    2. I am researching the Higginbotham Surname. I believe it starts in England, then to Barbados, then to VA and then Georgia and to Florida. I am looking for information for the names in Florida. My grandfather was Clarence Higginbotham married first to Ruby Hagan and then to Lora Chesire. Clarence's father was William Malachi (DOC) Higginbotham and he may have been married 4 times. William was born in 1860 and died in 1914 in Florida The wives Maiden names were Sikes,Higginbotham,Thompson and Parker. The 1910 census shows William married to Bith or Bice Thompson, but we have not been able to find the others. We are looking for their birth, marriage and death dates and where they are buried. I have copy of Clarence's death certificate but mother is listed as unknown The State of Florida shows no record for William. We are trying to find out who my grandfathers mother was. Any suggestions? I am hoping someone will read this and have this on their family tree and be willing to share. Margie

    2. I'm posting this to the lists just in case I accidently missed someone. I want to thank to everyone who responded so promptly to my query regarding look ups at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Jackson Co, FL. 1. Re: "Jackson County, FL Tombstone Inscriptions 1777-1960"
    2. Cynthia, Thanks for the info. I don't know at this time if I have a connection to Theon Yon who married Myrtle Moncrief or not. I am not new to genealogy, however, I am fairly new to my YON research. Will let you know if and when I find a connection and hope you will do the same. I now have 3 different dates for the birth and death of my grandfather, John Henry Yon. Who know what the accurate dates are??? Maybe in time I'll figure it out. Anyway, there are 2 particular people buried in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery that I am looking for. My father, John Calvin YON, b. Mar 9, 1910; d. Feb 24, 1954 and his son from a 1st marriage, J.E. YON, b. and d. on July 8, 1932. I had these records, but cannot find them now. I found them in the book listed above at the Florida State Archives. They are not in the online cemetery list for some reason. Thanks again. Liz

    1. Re: "Jackson County, FL Tombstone Inscriptions 1777-1960"
    2. Here is my mystery: I am trying to find the burial plot of a great uncle, Little Berry Strickland, born May 28, 1895, died May 17, 1959. The funeral record states that he was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Marianna, FLA. I spent two days there walking the cemetery, talked with the caretaker, and went to the records for the cemetery at city hall. NO records and NO burial plot at the cemetery. So....where is he? Is it possible to look this up in the above book? Any help or suggestions as to how to proceed would be much appreciated! (The above Little Berry Strickland's father was also named Littleberry D. Strickland. ) Thanks for your time, Sharon

    1. DAR and Washington Co marriages
    2. Hello everyone! Hope your New Year is being productive :) <gee, is it February already?> First, I got this link in another list but, maybe it might benefit someone. Rather than keeping it for myself <lol> I am sharing it BEFORE I take the time to search all those records. Hope it is helpful for you. <A HREF="http://dar.library.net/">DAR_LIB</A> (http://dar.library.net/) Second, the roll of Washington County marriages I purchased was unreadable and basically useless. :( We've returned the roll and are awaiting a replacement (hopefully more legible) roll this time. As soon as I hear something I'll keep you posted. (special thank you to Myrt) That's it for now... I will have the 1860 Washington County census online soon (yes, Betty I promise!), and some early church information for Washington County, and another surprise!! (call it a Valentine's gift <3 - since that is the next "holiday") <making note to get busy making web pages> Let's keep communicating and connecting. 2. Cynthia and Betty, Cynthia, I did request directons to Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Jackson Co, FL . Betty, it seems to me that the cemeteries you have listed are not the same as the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Jackson Co, FL. If you look on the Jackson County, Florida GenWeb Page, you will find the cemetery listed that I was asking about. It is in Jackson Co, FL. You can contact Barbara & Leroy Toole for more info on it. <bjtoole@digitalexp.com> Liz Gerlits
