The Florida Archives has the CSA Service Records for Florida soldiers as well as the pension records. The latter are being put online but not the service records. You might want to try the Archives' Home page at: http://dlis.dos.state.fl.us/barm/fsa.html The Archives have also purchased the Alabama and Georgia Pension Records, the Arkansas, Louisiana and I think Mississippi Pension records on microfilm.

I am looking for a James F. Hopkins that married Redy ( rilda) Wiggins in 1898 in Jackson County. She had with her at least 3 children from a previous marriage to Charles Widgeon in 1866. If anyone could do look ups I would appreciate a death date on Mr. Widgeon so I may prove that this Redy is actually Elisa Wilson. Thank you Teri

The revised master index is http://www.rootsweb.com/~fljackso/1900JCFLcensus/mindex.htm I also created a page index for the 1900 census.. http://www.rootsweb.com/~fljackso/1900JCFLcensus/pageind.htm so that you can go page by page if you desire... Dale, T.S. Armistead married into my Jerkins family after the CW - he was living in Putnam County at the time. He is collateral to my direct line, but I have some info on him - he was well recognized as a member of the"600" - and a picture or two if you or anyone else is interested. Greetings, While working on my new book on the Battle of Natural Bridge, I discovered some information that might be of interest here. During the fall of 1864 there was an incident at Charleston, S.C., involving the "Immortal Six Hundred." For those who may not be familiar, this was a much-publicized incident at the time. In response to Confederate housing of Union prisoners in Charleston, the Federals placed 600 Confederate prisoners on the shores of Charleston Harbor in the midst of a battle zone. These men, who became known as the "Immortal Six Hundred," became a human shield for the Union troops as Confederate gunners were forced to fire over and around them in order to hit their enemy. I had long been familiar with the story, but never knew that men from Marianna were among the 600 prisoners. Captain G. Finley of the 1st Florida Cavalry and Lieutenant T.S. Armistead of the 8th Florida Infantry, both from Marianna, were among the men of the 600. Also among their ranks were Lieutenant S.M. Davis (4th Florida Infantry) of Quincy and Lieutenant R.N. Hall (4th Florida Infantry) of Apalachicola. Best, Dale Cox
