Hello, I don't know if I am spelling his last name correctly, but am trying to determine when he died. I know it was somewhere around 1980-ish. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Sincerely Dianne
Dear Ya'll, I need to know if there has been a survey of the Ephesus Cemetery. I have not seen it on the website... but that could be because I don't remember where it is.. maybe even in another county... Betty? Cindy? Help!!! Dianne
Jeff, I remember the army surplus store, but we are talking about a different place. The Parramore in Jackson County was up on the Chattahoochee River about fifteen miles north of Sneads. That said, you are right. The Army Surplus Store by U.S.90 over in Gadsden County was a boy's dream. I remember begging mom and dad to stop there as we would drive back and forth over to Tallahassee when I was a kid. Dale
The best part about Parramore was all that Army surplus stuff he had out there by U.S. 90. Looking back on it now, it was probably all just a bunch of junk; but when we were kids, it was every pre-adolescent boy's dream! I haven't been by there in long time; I wonder if any of it is still there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 18, 2002 9:28 PM Subject: [FLJACKSO] Parramore > Hello, > > I grew up in Parramore, which we affectionately called the "suburbs of Two > Egg." > > The town was named after a local family that ran one of the stores there. > At its height, it was a pretty prosperous community. Looking for any and all assistance in finding info on the family of Joe DOUMAS & Sallie HAYES. According to Jackson Co. marriage records for 1900-1973, Book 6, Page 348, they were married 8/27/1907. If anyone has the ability of looking up that marriage record or has census records for any year showing this family, it would be very much appreciated for sure. Thank you all in advance for your help. Don Avery Massachusetts --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail.

The federal gov. got the copies along with the counties, but no one seems to have a copy of the list of households. I think the state dept. of state got a copy, but didn't keep it. Don't we wish we had that information now !? but hindsight is always 20-20. Ms. Sheila Lilia Martin with a little help from ((( >^..^< ))) <=Mr. Puddy

Listers, What years for Florida state census listings are available? Do they basically tell who was in the household? birth locations or ages ? I am most interested in the years, 1905, 1915, and 1925. Thank you again for any help! From cold, snowy Ohio, Sharon
Hello, I grew up in Parramore, which we affectionately called the "suburbs of Two Egg." The town was named after a local family that ran one of the stores there. At its height, it was a pretty prosperous community. There were several stores, two churches, a sawmill, gristmill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop and post office as well as several major naval stores operations. The community was served by two landings on the Chattahoochee River. Although it is a "ghost town," it remains a fairly active little community. There are probably 20 or 25 families living in the immediate area. Circle Hill Baptist Church is still active and the cemetery there contains the graves of many early settlers of the community. Belleview and Oak Grove Churches are no longer used on a regular basis, but still stand. Both also have cemeteries containing the graves of many area pioneers. Oak Grove is the setting for an annual reunion at which the history of the community is remembered. In addition to the Parramores, the community was populated by members of the Lawson, Cloud, Cox, Hewett, Brogdon, Owens and other families. Jackson County's oldest standing school structure, the old Cox school, still stands in Parramore. This one room school house dates from the 19th century and predated Central School, the ruins of which can still be seen. Best, Dale Cox

Hello, The Floridan was publishing obits in the 40s. The paper has been around for a long time and is a continuation of the old Times Courier. Dale Cox
There was (may still be there) a Parramore's Pharmacy in Marianna when I visited my grandparents, Lloyd and Annie Mae Kittrell. Is there a connection to the community Parramore? Pam Smith
Listers, Thank you so much for your helpful responses! I just recvd the death certificate and have since learned that the name of the funeral home was not Madison Maddox but Woodson Maddox. I have contacted the James and James Funeral Home and a very, very kind gentleman was of great help. For those of you who might be interested, the great great grandmother whose death certificate I just recvd was: Dora STRICKLAND b. Feb 1865 d. Sept 1943 buried Round Lake (Has NO marker; believed to be buried next to her second husband, Little Berry Strickland, Sr.) QUESTION: Would the J C FLORIDAN have been publishing any obits in Sept 1943? Gratefully, Sharon
Across the river in Georgia lived Parramores. By 1800 there were a lot of Parramores. John the immigrant arrived in Jamestown Va. 1622 on the Bon Venture. He went to the Eastern Shore, Northampton and Accomac Cos. Va and then into Somerset Co. Md. There is a barrier island off the coast of Va. named Parramore. The community may be named for perhaps Matthew Parramore's family who lived in the Early/Decatur Co. Ga. area. I descend through his daughter, who married Thomas Fain. Hopefully someone knows for sure about the community of Parramore and how it got it's name. Melba

Don, The obituary would have appeared in the Jackson County Floridan in Marianna. Since she was from Campbellton with connections to Madrid, it also probably appeared in the Graceville News and the Dothan Eagle. Best, Dale Cox
Hello Listers, Hoping to find an obituary on Lula Bell ROGERS. She died 3/3/1974 in Campbelton, FL. She was the wife of Charles Edward ROGERS. She was laid to rest with her husband in Madrid Cemetery in Madrid, AL. Can someone please help with this or at least tell me which newspaper may have carried the obit, if any? Thanks in advance, Don Avery Massachusetts --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail.
