    1. Re: [FLJACKSO] Fla. Boys School
    2. For several years my parents owned a Cadillac Convertible, Red on the outside, white leather interior--- Thrill Hill was even cooler then. Sometimes they would let us sit on the back of the seat where the roof folded in. I can't imagine allowing my kids to do that now. How dangerous! Heck, I reckon its a good thing my kids don't know anything about sitting on the back of a pickup truck, dragging our toes in the sand... > Hello, > > I could not believe your post when you mentioned Thrills Hill in > Chattahoochee. 1. Re: [FLJACKSO] Fla. Boys School
    2. Dale, My family lived in North Florida, over near Jacksonville. My grandparents were in Marianna. (my parents grew up there) We spent every other christmas there for 15-20 years. There were always 2 things that I looked forward to the most... (1) at Christmas - the ride through the boys school. (2) Coming through Chattahoochee, we would ride down "thrill hill" and then I loved the sound of the Clip-Clop going across the old bridge.. that was where the"time changed" and it was sorta magical to a little girl from the sticks! Thanks for reminding me.... Dianne > > They don't do the Christmas display these days. I remember that well from > my > childhood too. 3. The RUSS CEMETERY was down at the end of Butler Road here in Jackson County and when the Corps of Engineers was readying to bring the lake Seminole water level up they removed the graves in Russ Cemetery to other local cemeteries. I have a copy of a letter to Cindy Sloan in August 8, 1997 giving the names and places where graves were moved to. Most of the graves were UNKNOWN so not a lot of help, however there were a few. There were NO Russ names on the letter ! Glen

    2. P.S. They don't do the Christmas display these days. I remember that well from my childhood too. The little train they used to run as part of it is still in town. It is housed in a building at the ballfields next to Bulldog Stadium on Caverns Road. I know the plan was to run it for kids now and then, but I'm not sure if they still do. You can see the tracks for it just up the road to the west of the old steam engine at the entrance to the Federal Prison. Best, Dale

    2. Hello, I don't believe any employees are buried at the Boys School Cemetery. There are markers there, but from what I remember (I was last up there about 10 years ago) they are simple concrete crosses with no inscriptions. The cemetery is up on the small hill behind the new Jackson County Jail. The little road that leads up to it passes around the jail. Best, Dale Cox

    2. Hi Ya'll. I know they buried some of the boys at the school.. but did they ever bury employees there? Or perhaps they may have had a commemorative plate or stone? Do they still do the Christmas lights there like they did when I was a kid? (yes, there was electricity back that far!!! ) Seriously if ya'll know anyway I can try to locate an ex-employee from there. let me know. 3. I have been asked to modify/update/change/etc files that are in the Archives... It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to do so... You will have to contact the administrator for the archives, Cathy Burnsed.. and I would not contact her unless you are submitter... Her e-mail is on the archives page... As a matter of policy she will not change archives files except for the requests from the submitter of the subject file.. Frankly, archives files are a pain-in-the-neck and should NOT be submitted if they are ever subject to changes... There are errors in the census files in the archives but it will almost take an act of Congress to get them changed.. Cemetery file should NOT be submitted if you expect any changes to them.. The archives are just fine for historic documents... James L. Edenfield Website: http://edenfield.org Email: [email protected]

    2. Hi.. I was wondering WHY they moved it to Sneads, were there more family members there than elsewhere? Or did they move different parts of the Russ Cemetery to other Cemeteries? 1. [FLJACKSO] Russ cemetery?
    2. Can someone answer this e-mail? Thanks Betty Subj: Russ cemetery? Date: 02/11/2002 1:43:03 AM Eastern Standard Time From: [email protected] Dear Betty, While researching another lineage I came across the Russ cemetery listed on the Jackson County GenWeb page with you as the point of contact. Do you have any further information on this cemetery? Has any survey been done? There are no names on the web page and I am unaware of where these original graves may have been located. Would the county have any information on this cemetery? Is it run/owned by a church, city, private owner? Is it closed or open? A family member mentioned that we had family in Marianna, but as old as she is I thought she might have been thinking about me since I was born there in 1963. My grandfather was a Russ and lived in Panama City. Any information or leads you provide are greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Mike Kendall Chief Petty Officer United States Navy Lemoore, CA

Is this 1800's or 1900's? The state archives and library has some old newspapers on microfilm and so does Strozier Library at FSU (like Pensacola's Special Collections at University of West Florida).
