The 1930 Census for Florida and Alabama is here -- much earlier than I expected! I shelved it in the Genealogy Room this morning. Please remember: 1. We have three microfilm readers. Two are also printers. Copies are $.10 each. 2. You are limited to an hour on the reader if anyone is waiting. We do not take advance reservations. You must sign up for a reader when you arrive at the library. 3. We have no index to the 1930 census. A microfilm index is available through our rental program. The cost is $3.25 per reel plus $3.00 per order shipping. Your check or money order is sent directly to Heritage Quest. The film arrives several weeks after ordering and may be used in the library for one month. 4. We are unable to do look ups. 5. The Genealogy Room is open when the library is. Our hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 to 8; Thursday-Saturday 9 to 5; and Sunday 1 to 5. All times are CDT. We will be closed May 26th and 27th. I spot checked some counties and can report that, like all the other censuses, some pages are darker and clearer than others. But how great it is to have this new resource! Come and have fun! Sarah Watson was daughter of Richard L Watson and Jane Burch. Jane Burch was daughter of John Burch and Sarah Phillips (11 Jul 1758 d 1840). Sarah Phillips was daughter of George Phillips and Hannah Unknown. Marcus J Solomon married second 25 Feb 1869 Amanda Valonia (b 12 Dec 1846 and d 12 Apr 1927). They had seven daughters and lived in Bristol, Liberty County, Florida. I have sent to the Florida Archives of Civil War Pesion records of Marcus. Just discovered last week that he was in the Civil War. Three of his brothers are shown in Chisolm's Company I, 5th Florida Cavalry according to Dale Cox data. Sarah Watson Solomon is in the 1885 Jackson County census with son John Z and John Z's wife is in some later census records. Old data I have states Sarah Watson Solomon is buried in Sneed, Florida. The two year old Octavia shown as daughter of Mr and Mrs R W Stanley is probably a granddaughter of Octavia Nickels Stanley as she had two sons but have not located them in later census records. Also have note from History of Henry County which shows Octavia N Stanley as a Postmistress for Columbia Oct 1866 - Jul 1869 so she may have moved to that area from Marianna. The Antioch Cemetery (Franklin Survey) listed on the Jackson Co. Web page as being in Jackson Co., FL is an ERROR.. It is the same cemetery as the Antioch Assembly of God Church Cemetery in Grangerburg, Houston Co., AL... The Franklin survey is much more complete than the one done by J R Phillips Family in 1957... which appears to be a partial survey.. Location: Just north of Grangerburg, AL at the 1 mi marker on Hiway 53 turn west on Old US Rd and go .3 mile and turn right on Antioch Church Rd. and go to the end of the road. James James L.
