Can anyone help identify the husband of Sarah Davis? Sarah Davis, born in Georgia abt.1795 is head of household in the 1850 census of Jackson County. Others in HH were: William L. (Larkin?) Davis, born 1820.; Martin Davis b. 1822 and Nancy Davis b.1830. The latter three persons were all born in South Carolina. Adjoining neighbors were:(1) Wiley Alford, HH #, b. Georgia 1811; Susan Davis Alford, b.South Carolina 1828(?): (2) Sarah Davis, HH, b. Georgia 1820; William Davis, b. 1841; Martha Davis b. 1847 and Ellender Davis born 1848. All children were born in Florida. These families lived in southeast Jackson County near the Shady Grove community and the Calhoun County line. Additionally, David J. Mears, b. North Carolina and wife Mary Ann Davis Mears, b. South Carolina, lived nearby. It is believed that Mary Ann was also the daughter of Sarah Davis (1). Sarah Davis(1), Martin Davis and Nancy Davis are not found in the 1860 Jackson County Census, nor in the surrounding counties. No marriage records have been found for either of them. However, William L. Davis still resides in same area and has married Elizabeth Mears, b.1838, South Carolina. Elizabeth was the daughter of Burrell and Nancy Bayles (Bales, Bailes) found in Lexington County, South Carolina in the 1850 Census but in the 1860 Jackson County Census. Other Bayles children, all born in South Carolina, included: John W. Bayles, b. 1836, and married 1866 Emily Alford, daughter of Wiley Alford; Irwin (Ervin?) b. 1846; Amanda b. 1835; and Martin b. 1848.

To Gil Roberts and anyone on the Heritage Book Committee who may have contributed to the Cartledge story on p. 141. I am researching this family and looking for any info. I may have asked this before, but I lost most of my email in December and have nothing to reference. Would like to contact anyone working on Cartledge or Joseph Collier. Cynthia
I have an Annie Lavinia Sellers born 30 October 1880 in Decatur County, Georgia, daughter of George Thomas Sellers and Mary Ann Hester, but I have doubts that this is her. Also my 2-great grandfather John Shepard Haven (his daughter Mary Ann Haven married my great grandfather Richard M. Sellars in Thomas County, Georgia) had a second marriage to Lida M. Hester/ Lyda M. Husky/Hasky (just about every time I've found her name it was spelled differently) in Jackson County, Florida in 1905, but J. S. lived for many years before and during the Civil War in the Blowing Cave District of Decatur (now Grady) County, Georgia and it's my best guess that she was one of the Hesters from that area. Anyway, my main purpose here is to question if anyone knows who Mrs. Annie Sellers Snider's parents were? The identity of whose Lida Hester parents or siblings were is a bonus question for "extra points". <G> Richard White Tallahassee, Florida GAGenWeb Archives wrote: >The Ellaville Sun Friday, October 10, 1941 No. 14 >MISS LOIS ADAMS IS BRIDE OF MARVIN SNIDER >Miss Lois Adams, of Cairo, and Mr. Marvin Snider of Schley county, were >married at the Methodist parsonage in Cairo Saturday, October 4, with Rev. Both were killed by two assailants who had targeted Sheriff McDaniel (Johnny Mac) and his wife. The latest news from Marianna this afternoon gave a few more details surrounding the event. In less than seven minutes, both Mellie and responding Deputy Altman were gunned down in front of the McDaniel home last evening, January 30, at approximately 5 p.m. CT. Mellie was returning from the grocery store and, while on the phone to her husband, she noticed a strange car entering the drive to their home. Johnny Mac dispatched deputies, as he was also on his way home. He heard Mellie scream. In less than two minutes Deputy Altman arrived and was ambushed by the two assailants. The men, Lionel Sands and Daniel Brown, were also killed when Johnny Mac and more deputies arrived on the scene within minutes. Sands was under investigation for the death of his wife in 2001. She was found dead floating in a pool in Grand Ridge. After a medical examination, it was noted that she suffered blunt force trauma to her head. Both Sands and Brown, the only witnesses to her death, stated she accidentally fell from a ladder and drowned. Sands filed a lawsuit against the insurance company for proceeds from her policy(ies?); however the judge dismissed the case. Brown served eight years in prison for a prior assault. Sands has no criminal record.
