Oh, yes! I also remember our first "ice box." It was in 1948 when I was 7. Seems that the ice truck came around about once a week. We were poor, so we only bought a square foot block of ice. Daddy had dug a hole in the ground under an old oak tree in the yard. He had put a metal box in the hole just big enough for the block of ice to fit into.
