Hi all I was looking at the family of my ancestor, Alexander McGowan, on the 1900 census for Holmes County. In his household, his son, Henry Nathan McGowan, and daughter in law, Emma, are also living with 2 children. The oldest child is EMMA JESSE LAIRD, born October 1893 in Florida. I suspect the child Emma is the daughter of the adult Emma by her first marriage. Thought this might help anyone researching this surname. It can be found in Precinct 13, Matthews Mill, p. 13.
